Eaton Vance Equity is comprised of six distinct investment teams of experienced, long-tenured investors. We employ bottom-up, research driven investment approaches designed to deliver attractive risk-adjusted long-term performance for clients. Eaton Vance Equity investment teams manage diverse strategies across U.S., international, and global equity covering various market capitalization and investment styles.

Our Value Equity team is seeking a Consumer Analyst, who will be responsible for generating high-conviction investment ideas across the Consumer sector, including Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples, consistent with a fundamental, long-term, quality-biased value investment philosophy. This role requires deep fundamental research capabilities, strong valuation discipline, independent thinking, and the ability to influence portfolio construction decisions. The successful candidate will operate as a senior investor within a collaborative team environment and contribute meaningfully to overall portfolio performance.

Responsibilities

Investment Research & Idea Generation

  • Conduct rigorous bottom-up fundamental research on Consumer sector companies predominantly in the U.S., with an awareness of leading global market participants.
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models, valuation frameworks, and scenario analyses.
  • Identify mispriced securities through differentiated insights on earnings power, capital allocation, industry structure, and management quality.
  • Generate clear, well-supported investment recommendations with defined points of market differentiation, risk assessments, and valuation targets.

Portfolio Contribution

  • Present investment ideas to the Portfolio Manager and investment team with conviction and clarity.
  • Actively monitor portfolio holdings within sector coverage, updating theses as new information emerges.
  • Provide ongoing recommendations on position sizing, trimming, or exiting positions based on risk-reward dynamics.
  • Collaborate with sector analysts on other investment teams to assess cross-sector risks and thematic exposures.

Sector Expertise & Thought Leadership

  • Develop deep expertise in key Consumer sub-sectors such as retail, branded consumer goods, e-commerce, food & beverage, household products, leisure, or autos.
  • Maintain strong relationships with company management teams, industry experts, and sell-side analysts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from other investment teams across Eaton Vance Equity and participate in wider discussions / debates on topical sector themes (e.g., consumer trends, competitive dynamics, supply chains, pricing power, and margin sustainability).

Risk Management & Discipline

  • Incorporate downside analysis, balance sheet assessment, and capital allocation review into all recommendations.
  • Ensure investment theses are consistent with the team’s value discipline, risk/reward framework, and portfolio construction guidelines.
  • Monitor macroeconomic, regulatory, and industry developments that may impact sector exposures.

Client & Business Support

  • Support portfolio managers and client-facing teams in articulating investment positioning and sector outlook.
  • Contribute to marketing materials, quarterly commentaries, and client meetings when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant investment experience, including significant buy-side experience within a value-oriented strategy.
  • Demonstrated track record of generating profitable investment ideas within the Consumer sector.
  • Deep understanding of valuation methodologies including DCF, sum-of-the-parts, normalized earnings power, and relative valuation.
  • Strong financial modeling skills and advanced proficiency in Excel and relevant research tools (e.g., FactSet, Bloomberg, prominent AI models).
  • Ability to think independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex investment theses succinctly.
  • Clear alignment with a long-term, value-oriented investment philosophy.
  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to challenge consensus views.
  • High degree of accountability and ownership of research coverage.
  • Ability to make investment decisions and comfort taking risk.
  • Strong judgment under uncertainty and market volatility.
  • Professional maturity and presence appropriate for a senior investment role.
  • Undergraduate degree required
  • MBA and/or CFA designation preferred.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $200,000 and $300,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
