POSITION SUMMARY:

As a key member of the Managed Markets & Access leadership team, the Executive Director of Account Management will lead the National Account Director team in executing Rigel's market access and payer engagement strategy across all brands. This highly visible, customer-facing leader will be responsible for driving consistent, high-quality execution of payer account plans to optimize formulary access, reimbursement, and patient affordability.

The Executive Director will provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for the field National Account Director team, ensuring effective engagement with key customers, including pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), healthcare population decision makers (HPDMs), government channel customers (e.g., Medicaid, VA/DoD), large health systems, and integrated delivery networks (IDNs). In partnership with the SVP of Managed Markets & Access Strategy and other key stakeholders, this role will ensure the successful implementation of contracting, pricing, and managed markets initiatives and provide customer insights that inform ongoing business decisions and drive executional excellence.

Salary Range: $255,000 to $310,000

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Team Leadership: Build, train, and lead the National Account Director team to develop and implement strategic business plans that align with overall objectives, maximize product access, and ensure reimbursement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, including formulary, P&T, and pathway leaders, as well as medical and pharmacy directors, and other population-based stakeholders, to secure appropriate access and optimal product positioning.
  • Leadership and Influence: Exhibit leadership among various customer groups and access stakeholders, including payers, academic institutions, IDNs, pathway committee members, and others.
  • Cross-functional collaboration to address access and reimbursement challenges while developing coordinated solutions that are compliant and effective. Strategy Development: Co-create strategies, tools, and tactics for the field team to communicate the product value proposition effectively.
  • Collaborate on pricing and contracting strategies, HEOR evidence generation plans, patient support programs, payer marketing initiatives, and account management approaches.
  • Alignment and Negotiation: Lead discussions with internal and external partners to ensure alignment on access, coverage, reimbursement, and contract strategies.
  • Culture and Performance: Foster a high-performance ownership culture within the field team by promoting accountability, urgency, ethical behavior, and professional development.
  • Consistently model all of Rigel’s values (Innovation, Integrity, Commitment to Patients, Fun, Success, Teamwork, and Transparency) and the One Rigel approach.
  • Industry Insight: Stay informed on healthcare industry trends, payer policies, reimbursement processes, and competitive activity. Provide strategic insights to inform decision-making, access strategies, and product launches.
  • Compliance: Ensure all Managed Markets initiatives are developed and executed in compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Other roles and responsibilities may be assigned to accommodate business needs.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in market access, payer account management, pricing, contracting, and reimbursement within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience managing and developing high-performing Market Access or National Account teams.
  • Extensive experience negotiating and managing contracts with commercial, government, and integrated healthcare customers.
  • Demonstrated success leading high-performing market access/account management teams, including coaching, talent development, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare ecosystem, including commercial payers, PBMs, Medicare, Medicaid, VA/DoD, IDNs, and evolving reimbursement and policy dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain executive-level customer relationships and influence complex negotiations.
  • Exceptional strategic, financial, negotiation, leadership, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and successfully execute complex market access strategies.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing national payer account strategies that have resulted in improved formulary access, reimbursement, and business performance.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including experience with contract financial analysis, gross-to-net implications, forecasting, and budget management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and executive presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop organizational capability, foster a culture of accountability, and deliver results through others
  • Demonstrated ability to translate market insights into actionable business recommendations and influence pricing, contracting, and access decisions.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, with experience using market access analytics, payer data, and customer insights to drive performance.
  • Ability to lead through change, prioritize competing business needs, and execute in a dynamic commercial environment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $255,000 to $310,000. The actual salary offered will depend on several factors, including experience, qualifications, geographic location, internal equity, and business needs.

This position is eligible to participate in Rigel's annual bonus program and is eligible for equity incentive awards, subject to the terms of the applicable plans. This position is not commission-based.
