Position Purpose:

The Executive Content Developer would use their knowledge of best practices for professional teaching and learning as well as practical classroom experience to help develop new print and digital products with a particular emphasis on K-2 Core Development for the writing strand of Max Literacy. The Executive CD works closely with authors, editors and Creative Services and Marketing to evaluate, develop and edit instructional materials for children, families and teachers, in both print and digital.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of developing literacy materials for teachers and students for the education market
  • Help maintain instructional design integrity, focused on the Writing for Understanding pedagogy, and content scopes and sequences.
  • Coordinate with pedagogical experts, editorial leadership, and content developers at all levels to develop content for teachers, students, and families, in both print and digital formats. Ensure that writing and editing guidelines are observed.
  • Review, edit, and approve manuscript and production stages, working directly with pedagogical experts, editorial leadership, content developers, copyeditors, graphic designers, and photo researchers.
  • Manage, train, and provide on-going guidance to content developers at all levels of experience, and provide a plan for additional resources when necessary to meet deadlines and content requirements.
  • Work directly with content developers, providing feedback and making as needed revisions in order to maintain a high-quality product across units and grades.
  • Revise and edit manuscript as requested to incorporate feedback (based on defined review stages) from Professional Development, Sales and Marketing, Editorial leadership and pedagogical experts/ consultants.
  • Attend regularly scheduled and impromptu meetings with team members to discuss content, workflow, and product status.
  • Work cross-functionally with directors and content developers at all levels from the reading strand, word study strand, and digital team to ensure a cohesive user experience.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of educational trends, practices, and interests, and advise and mentor internal teams accordingly.
  • As needed or assigned, work with the Publisher and Associate Publisher to help conceptualize new product ideas in both print and digital.
  • As needed or assigned, communicate with Sales and Marketing to support the development of sales support tools.
  • As needed or assigned, communicate with Professional Development to support the development of teacher trainings and district support tools.
  • Complete time tracking documentation on a weekly basis
  • Aid in the QA of new digital products

Job Requirements/Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience editing in the education market space, with particular emphasis on developing materials for both children and adults, from manuscript to final format
  • MA or MS degree in education or related field or equivalent experience. PhD is a plus
  • K-12 classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Excellent editorial skills and ability to develop products from conception to final execution
  • Excellent management skills
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for and willingness to contribute to a collaborative team environment, inclusive of training and advancing skills of all direct reports
