Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented associate, experienced or senior Equipment & Tool Engineer to join our team in Ridley Park, PA in support of multiple programs, including the H-47 Chinook and V-22 Osprey. This role is responsible for supporting tooling and equipment readiness, documentation, compliance, and lifecycle management across site operations.
Position Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the design, development, implementation, and sustainment of equipment and tooling used in manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and test operations. This role works cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, safety, and production teams to ensure tools and equipment meet technical, operational, and safety requirements. The candidate troubleshoots tooling and equipment issues, develops improvements to support production efficiency and reliability, and provides technical input for specifications, documentation, procurement, installation, and lifecycle management. This position typically operates with moderate independence and is expected to manage moderately complex technical tasks while contributing to continuous improvement and production readiness.
  • Tooling/equipment requirements definition
    • Gather needs from manufacturing, production, quality, and engineering teams
    • Translate process needs into tool/equipment specifications
  • Design and development
    • Develop or support the design of tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, or support equipment
    • Ensure solutions are safe, practical, maintainable, and cost-effective
  • Technical analysis and problem solving
    • Troubleshoot tooling/equipment issues
    • Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions
    • Support continuous improvement and production recovery efforts
  • Integration with manufacturing processes
    • Ensure tools/equipment fit the intended process, workflow, and product requirements
    • Coordinate with production, quality, industrial engineering, and suppliers
  • Qualification and validation
    • Verify tools and equipment meet functional, performance, and safety requirements
    • Support test, inspection, and acceptance activities
  • Documentation and configuration control
    • Create and maintain drawings, specifications, procedures, and change documentation
    • Manage revisions and ensure compliance with configuration control processes
  • Project and supplier coordination
    • Work with internal teams and external vendors to build, procure, or modify equipment
    • Track schedules, costs, and delivery commitments
  • Compliance and safety
    • Ensure equipment/tooling meets applicable safety, regulatory, and company standards
    • Support hazard assessments and safe-use documentation
  • Mentoring / technical leadership
    • Provide guidance to junior engineers or technicians
    • Lead smaller technical efforts or work packages as a subject matter contributor

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): (See education & experience below for the levels)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 1+ years of experience working in a tool design, tool engineering, or tool validation role

Preferred Qualification (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 2+ years of work-related experience with a Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree
  • 5+ years of work-related experience with a Bachelor's degree OR 3+ years of work-related experience with a Master's degree
  • 9+ years of work-related experience with a Bachelor's degree OR 7+ years of work-related experience with a Master's degree
  • Demonstrated experience with D33011 tool design documents and standards
  • Demonstrated experience with Philadelphia supplemental tool design documents
  • Working knowledge of ASME standards applicable to tooling and equipment
  • Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
  • Familiarity with CATIA V5

Typical Education/Experience:
Level 2
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Level 3
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.
Level 4
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.

Summary pay range (level 2): $90,950 - $123,050
Summary pay range (Level 3): $111,350 - $150,650
Summary pay range (Level 4): $135,150 - $182,850
