This position will be a hybrid work arrangement, which translates to 2-3 days minimum per week in the office.

The Enterprise Strategy Associate (Boston) will play a central role in helping chart the growth and development of our firm strategy. This is a unique opportunity to help chart the firm’s future growth, advising the CEO and Supervisory Board on strategic direction and priorities. We hope to add a high-caliber strategic thinker to our tight, entrepreneurial team.

The ideal candidate is someone who is:
  • Restlessly curious, including about the fast-changing evolution of the private equity and broader private markets space
  • Entrepreneurial, strategic, creative, and flexible, with experience developing and launching new ideas, initiatives, or solutions
  • Analytically rigorous, with strong attention to detail and ability to formulate recommendations based on analysis
  • Excellent at communicating complex ideas in simple terms, in writing and in person
  • Experienced in working in team environments and cross-functional groups
  • Organized and effective in independently driving initiatives, with the willingness and capability to assume responsibility and ownership of outcomes
  • Focused on having significant impact over both short and long time horizons
What you will do:

The Enterprise Strategy Associate will help define and refine HarbourVest’s overall firm strategy. This role will include contributing to some of the firm’s most important strategy work, helping define direction and contribute to high-priority strategic initiatives including M&A and business development. Specific efforts will vary over time, with select examples below:

  • Evaluate entry into a new investment space as well as design new, preliminary shape of that business (e.g., approach to private wealth)
  • Brainstorm and help execute on relevant industry partnerships
  • Brainstorm and help execute on inorganic growth vectors
  • Assess entrance into or exit from specific geographies
  • Lead insights creation from market research on our industry, peers and relevant macro trends to ultimately provide implications for our firm and strategy on regular basis
  • Perform analysis to change or enhance our investment allocation process
  • And other responsibilities as required
What you bring:
  • 2-5 years of professional experience in consulting, investment banking, private equity or other relevant asset management strategy roles  
  • Demonstrated excellence in analytical reasoning, creativity, and written communications in team-based settings
  • Demonstrated familiarity with and interest in the private equity or broader private markets landscape
Education Preferred
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
Experience
  • 2-5 years of experience, preferably in PE-related professional services
