Enterprise Segment Marketing Director

We are looking for an Enterprise Segment Marketing Director to join the Segment team within our Marketing department. In this role, the Enterprise Segment Marketing Director will lead our company’s Enterprise marketing strategy. This individual will oversee and lead a team instrumental to driving differentiated and effective enterprise marketing strategies that drive growth in the segment.

Reporting to the VP of Segment Marketing, the Enterprise Marketing Director will act as a strategic leader responsible for driving the enterprise-level marketing strategy to accelerate growth, build market presence, and deepen customer engagement. The role requires a data-driven marketing leader with a deep understanding of healthcare technology and the enterprise segment in healthcare, who can lead cross-functional teams to develop and execute impactful integrated campaigns and programs. Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive enterprise marketing strategies aligned with athenahealth’s business objectives and core values.

  • Lead the creation and implementation of multi-channel marketing campaigns driving demand, awareness, and pipeline acceleration for the enterprise segment in support of achieving established financial targets. Ensure strategies are aligned to the unique composition of Enterprise, leveraging account-based marketing tactics throughout the funnel.

  • Develop and execute innovative go-to-market strategies to drive growth and brand relevance in markets where we are not the category leader.

  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Product Marketing, Integrated Communications, Brand + Performance Marketing, and Customer Marketing teams to deliver integrated marketing programs.

  • Use data analytics and market insights to optimize marketing program performance and demonstrate business impact through clear KPIs such as ROI, pipeline contribution, and customer engagement metrics.

  • Manage and mentor a high-performing marketing team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.

  • Develop enterprise brand positioning and messaging to ensure alignment with athenahealth’s brand voice. Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to develop tailored content, events, and digital initiatives that resonate with enterprise healthcare organizations.

  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement in marketing approaches, leveraging the latest tools and industry trends.

  • Ensure budget adherence and resource allocation to maximize marketing investments.

  • Identify and exploit white space opportunities, emerging buyer needs, and competitive weaknesses to expand market share and build credibility.

  • Collaborate closely with Portfolio Marketing to:

  • Craft differentiated value propositions and messaging frameworks that challenge incumbents and position our offerings as compelling alternatives for enterprise buyers.

  • Test and iterate new positioning and narrative angles to improve awareness, consideration, and win rates in underpenetrated enterprise segments.

  • Build competitive enablement resources and objection-handling narratives that equip sales to compete effectively against entrenched players.

  • Partner with product, sales, and customer success to translate complex product capabilities into clear, outcome-oriented messaging that resonates with target personas.

Typical Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, healthcare administration, or related field. MBA preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in B2B marketing, with at least 5 years in healthcare enterprise marketing or healthcare technology; experience marketing to health systems is a plus

  • Proven track record in leading enterprise marketing teams and delivering measurable growth in complex, evolving markets.

  • Proven leadership and people management experience.

  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically, balancing creativity with data-driven decision-making.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, effectively articulating complex concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Strong business acumen and understanding of market dynamics, customer needs, and competitive landscape in the healthcare IT space.

  • Results-oriented mindset, driving measurable outcomes, and achieving business objectives.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.


Expected Compensation

$127,000 - $215,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
