POSITION SUMMARY:
Berklee is looking for an Enterprise Cloud & Data Infrastructure Architect (Enterprise Architect) to help the College achieve its goals by implementing the latest and most relevant technological solutions. This role requires a strong focus on technological architecture and the ability to work across different business units to ensure IT architecture best practices.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with various types of technology environments, managing system integrations, and solving complex issues. They should be skilled in handling environments that include on-premises, co-located, hosted, and cloud systems. Additionally, they must be able to communicate complex business and technical processes in simple, visual ways and speak clearly. Patience and good interpersonal skills are necessary to train and mentor technical colleagues on system operations.
The Enterprise Architect will report to the Director of Systems and Networks and will align the College's technology infrastructure with its strategic, tactical, and operational needs. This role involves collaborating with other senior technology staff, including Systems and Network Architects and Administrators, as well as other technology teams and business units. The Enterprise Architect will work with Systems Administrators and external service partners to define technical operations and ensure that the technical team's priorities and procedures support the College's mission. They will manage various technology infrastructure upgrade projects, focusing on cloud solutions and IT architecture best practices.
The candidate must have experience in leading teams in a matrixed reporting environment and a proven track record of successful technology implementation and integration projects.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field or 10+ years equivalent work experience
5+ years of demonstrated technical proficiency, IT project leadership, documentation and architecture experience
Current technology certifications preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (list 5-8 essential job functions)
Design and document enterprise infrastructure systems architecture and solutions.
Provide architectural oversight for infrastructure governance (both cloud and on prem,) ensuring a robust security posture, and managing IT projects across the organization.
Lead and advise on the implementation and system administration of:
Virtualization infrastructure
Storage Area Network (SAN) and backup infrastructure
Directory infrastructure (authentication & identity management, single sign-on)
infrastructure (listserv & mail relay, Google Workspace for Education, spam filtering & spoof protection)
Web infrastructure supporting intranet and public web presence
Citrix application hosting infrastructure
Cloud native/multi-cloud and hybrid cloud architecture
Develop or manage proactive and reactive systems monitoring protocols and standards for the College’s heterogeneous systems environment.
Develop and manage incident management and response procedures.
Assist in developing security policies and ensuring compliance with implementation requirements.
Assist in disaster recovery planning for enterprise IT resources.
Cloud Infrastructure Management:
Oversee the architecture, implementation, and management of cloud-based services and solutions, including Google Workspace for Education, AWS, and Microsoft Office 365.
Ensure seamless integration and interoperability between cloud services and on-premises systems.
Develop and implement cloud governance policies to manage access, security, and compliance.
Monitor cloud infrastructure performance, usage, and cost, and optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure cloud solutions meet the strategic, tactical, and operational needs of the College.
Communication and Technical Leadership Competencies:
Ability to solicit and gather technical details and requirements, contributing to the clarity and definition required to establish project milestones, tasks, goals and cost management.
Clear communication skills to summarize and convey complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
Create complex documents, including technical procedures, diagrams, workflows, and timelines specific to technology solutions/applications.
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices, and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
Lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups, both internal and external to Berklee and across functional areas.
Provide high levels of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations.
Lead project team meetings, including reviewing action plans and tracking project milestones.
Maintain a constructive, team-oriented, and customer-focused attitude at all times and in all settings.
Work independently and creatively, learn quickly, and solve complex problems in high-pressure situations.
Influence, train, mentor, and leverage the skills of others, including business partners and technical team members.
Knowledge of software development life cycles and methodologies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Multi Cloud/Native Cloud and Hybrid Cloud IT operations mgmt. and architecture
Strong background in Windows, Linux, and Apple system administration concepts and practices, including configuration of network services, servers, security, backup, recovery, automation, and system tuning.
Extensive experience with enterprise applications, protocols, and standards, especially directory (LDAP), e-mail (SMTP, IMAP, POP3), calendaring, and web (HTTP) services.
Advanced knowledge of identity management concepts (Single Sign-On; Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting; LDAP; SSL/TLS; PKI).
Experience with enterprise storage area network (SAN) technology, managing block and unified storage arrays, multipath host configuration, and fabric zoning. Experience with network-attached solutions (NAS) and configuring network file systems (NFS, CIFS).
Strong knowledge of systems and information security standards and their achievement in a heterogeneous environment.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred: The Enterprise Architect should have several years of experience interfacing with all of these technologies, some comfort level as an administrator for most of them, and deep core competency in some of the following:
Windows 2008, 2012, 2016, etc.; Linux, RHEL & Unix
Experience with Directory platforms and identity management
DNS, DHCP, Protocol filtering, TCP, UDP Proxy servers.
Certificates, PKI, Radius, VPN.
Scripting or Programming Languages: Bash, batch, PowerShell, vbscript, C+, C# or similar.
iSCSI, Fiber Channel.
Knowledge of technology service frameworks such as ITIL.
Knowledge and understanding of the OSI Network model.
Experience working in an academic environment.
Experience managing a technical team preferred.
Advanced Systems Administration Certifications: AIX, RHEL, MCITP.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC. (Responsible for on-call, 24 HR. coverage, etc.):
Berklee College maintains a global infrastructure. Planned and unplanned work may be required after hours or on weekend.
The Enterprise Architect is a part of the IT OPS support team and may occasionally be asked to participate in 7 x24 on call coverage.
Light physical work as related to server systems may be required.
Employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move throughout the college campus, including occasional travel to any off site hosting facilities.

Hiring Range:
$155,000 - $170,000; salary dependent on relevant experience and education.
