Location: This is a fully remote role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office).  

Type: This is a full-time position 

 

About the Team  

The Workforce Tools & Integration team builds the cloud, AI, and automation platforms that power how College Board staff work—modernizing service management, streamlining operations, and improving the speed and reliability of technology delivery for millions of students and thousands of schools we serve. We work across Product DevOps, Security, Network Engineering, and Infrastructure to design secure, scalable solutions using tools like Jira Service Management, Atlassian Cloud, Slack, Okta, GitHub, and emerging AI capabilities such as OpenAI and Gemini. As a collaborative team, we swarm on complex challenges, go deep when needed, and continuously learn and innovate together, united by a commitment to delivering tools that help our workforce—and ultimately our students—thrive. 

  

About the Opportunity   

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for designing and delivering the workforce platforms, integrations, and AI-powered solutions that shape the daily experience of College Board staff. You will bring strong cloud engineering expertise and AI fluency to translate complex needs into clear technical plans, guide architecture and delivery for event-driven cloud services and intelligent automations, and ensure our tools are secure, reliable, and easy to use. You will mentor engineers, influence cross-team decisions, and build strong partnerships across the organization, helping us work smarter, innovate faster, and deliver high-impact solutions that support our mission and drive meaningful operational improvement.   

 

In this role, you will:  

Discovery, Definition & Delivery (40%) 

  • Design, build, and deliver seamless, user-centered workforce tools and cloud integrations. 

  • Manage workforce technology-based tools that enhance every stage of the employee life cycle such as ChatGPT/Open AI, Atlassian Suite, Slack, Zoom, G-Suite, o365, Github, etc. 

  • Lead Agile processes—ensuring clarity of priorities, crisp execution, and continuous delivery momentum through, attending and actively participating in ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily scrums, sprint reviews/demos and retrospectives to drive collaboration and momentum. 

  • Translate roadmaps into actionable work, sequencing and prioritizing epics and stories in partnership with key stakeholders and technology leaders 

  • Drive alignment across teams, resolve dependencies, and ensure the backlog remains visible and well-understood. 

  • Write code to automate the infrastructure lifecycle, create and support internal tools and utilize CLIs to streamline processes. 

  • Partner with technology leaders to align architectures, cloud services, and delivery patterns with organizational goals. 

  • Influence and contribute to forward-thinking cloud infrastructure and AI-driven tooling strategies. 

  • Represent workforce tools in Enterprise Architecture Review processes. 

  • Prioritize and sequence epics and stories in the product backlog based on feature priority. 

  • Work with stakeholders to resolve dependencies, negotiate, coordinate, and align priorities to successfully deliver features. 

  • Ensure the product backlog is visible, transparent, and well-understood by all, clearly showing what the development team will work on next. 

  • Partner with technology leaders to understand business objectives and align architectures and cloud product offerings with those objectives. 

  • Contribute to the development and growth of the Cloud Infrastructure Services, through thought leadership, design and implementation of forward-thinking tools and processes. 

  • Participate in the Enterprise Architecture Review process as a key stakeholder in defining infrastructure products’ architecture  

 

Strategy & Communication (30%) 

  • Craft a compelling vision and strategic plan grounded in data to ensure we deliver an engaging, inclusive experience for all staff. 

  • Serve as an AI Technology Partner, co-designing secure, value-driven AI solutions with business owners and security teams 

  • Solution and implement cloud-first architectural best practices that enable agility, scalability, and operational efficiency  

  • Contribute to technology strategy and planning to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and industry best practices   

  • Research emerging technologies (AI, automation, SaaS, cloud) to guide investment and innovation. 

  • Lead agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Grooming, Demo, etc.) and contribute to high-quality team deliverables. 

  • Drive engineering excellence through peer reviews, design standards, and healthy technical debate 

  • Lead in the identification and resolution of production issues to maintain system stability, performance, and reliability. 

 

Team Management (30%) 

  • Lead and manage a team of around 7 highly skilled engineers, ranging from Engineering Leads and Senior Engineers to junior engineers, fostering collaboration, technical excellence, and career development across experience levels. 

  • Effectively manage the engineering backlog to ensure team members are engaged, focused, and working effectively toward accomplishing goals. 

  • Lead technical efforts and mentor technical staff in developing and leveraging technology architectures and solutions, across cloud, SaaS, and AI-integrated solutions 

  • Set vision and priorities for the team, track and manage progress to goals, and provide coaching and support to ensure team members meet and exceed goals, remain engaged, and contribute meaningfully to our mission 

  • Cultivate an inclusive and high achieving culture that enables all team members to live out College Board’s Operating Principles. 

  • Bring proven leadership experience and consistently embody College Board’s Manager Expectations in your work. 

 

About You  

  • 7+ years of professional work experience including a minimum of 5 years working in technology 

  • 3+ years of recent experience working as a Engineering Manager with proven expertise in delivering product or platform-level features for event-driven cloud-based solutions 

  • Experience or knowledge of workforce technology tools such as Atlassian Suite, Slack, Zoom, G-Suite, o365, Github, Zapier, etc. 

  • Experience managing teams of 4 to 8 direct reports, including higher-level individual contributors. 

  • Experience in: 

  • Building event-driven AWS cloud-based serverless applications. 

  • Building API’s or other back-end services. 

  • Integrating OpenAI with other enterprise tools 

  • Implementations with LLMs and RAG models 

  • Coding using Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React.js, Node.js, or Java 

  • A strategic and inclusive leadership style: you set clear priorities, build effective team structures, plan for future needs, and foster a culture of belonging. 

  • A proven ability to drive performance and growth: you set high expectations, deliver real-time, evidence-based feedback, and coach team members to take smart risks, stretch their skills, and achieve meaningful impact. 

  • Strong experience working in an Agile product development environment. 

  • Ability to identify opportunities where AI can streamline processes, uncover insights, or improve outcomes  

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with an ability to present ideas in user-friendly and engineering language. 

  • Experience leading engineering and architecture discussions that foster open and respectful dialogue, bringing stakeholders to agreement 

  • Exceptional planning, prioritization, and execution skills, delivering results on time and on budget in fast-paced environments. 

  • A bachelor's degree in the field of computer science preferred. 

  • Able to travel 3-5 times a year to our NYC or Reston, VA office

About Our Process

  • The hiring range for this role is $125,000–$170,000.
