WHO WE ARE:
ActBlue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating cutting-edge technology that fuels Democratic victories and enables progressive causes to thrive.
Our vision is simple: building change through the power of people. Since our founding, we’ve been building innovative solutions to revolutionize grassroots fundraising – if you’ve donated to a Democratic campaign or a progressive organization online, you’ve probably used our platform! We believe in putting power in the hands of small-dollar donors by helping thousands of groups — from local candidates to national movements — mobilize their communities and create a lasting impact. Every member of our team is deeply committed to advancing our shared mission and core values. Together, we are shaping the future of democracy.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the Fundraising Capabilities Experimentation & Expansion (FCEE) team within ActBlue’s growing engineering department. ActBlue processes millions in contributions a day for thousands of campaigns and organizations; the FCEE team builds new capabilities that enable our platform to support traditional fundraising methods and emerging formats, with the goal of providing a one-stop solution for an entire fundraising operation –wherever and however they raise money.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Expertly lead a diverse team of software engineers through building and maintaining crucial elements of our fundraising product via rapid product development cycles, from greenfield beta launches through customer feedback integration to general availability releases.
- Support the professional development of your direct reports with supportive and constructive feedback, goal-setting, regular check-ins, and performance reviews.
- Work with engineers, product managers, and UX leads to formulate roadmaps that align with our strategic organizational themes and goals. Collaborate on an ongoing basis to achieve them.
- Ensure your team delivers on their roadmap and achieves the target strategic outcomes of their work.
- Enable your team to learn fast while consistently delivering value by prioritizing frequent delivery of small iterations of work.
- Drive essential communication between teams to ensure timely, high-quality results that further organizational goals. Resolve blockers and proactively escalate concerns.

- Collaborate with the rest of the engineering department’s leadership to cultivate a work environment where everyone can thrive.
- Facilitate technical decision-making with an emphasis on maintainability, scalability, and performance, ensuring that complex workflows align with best practices, software development methodologies, and coding standards.
- Oversee the end-to-end software development process while championing a user-centric approach to iterating and improving on product features.
- Promote strong and transparent communication channels both internally and with cross-functional stakeholders across the organization.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- People management experience: 3-5+ years of experience supporting a team of individual contributors at multiple levels, fostering their professional development, and enhancing team performance.
- Experience building user-centric engineering products.
- Expertise and creativity when it comes to delivering value fast, with a focus on MVPs, frequent deployments, scope negotiations, and demos.
