Why Clipboard Health Exists:

We exist to lift as many people up the socioeconomic ladder as possible. We dramatically improve lives by letting healthcare professionals turn extra time and ambition into career growth and financial opportunity. We achieve this with our app-based marketplace that connects healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals, allowing professionals to book on-demand shifts and facilities to access on-demand talent.

About Clipboard Health:

Clipboard Health is a fast-growing Series C marketplace. We are a leader in our Long Term Care vertical and are expanding into several others (Dental Offices, Schools, etc).
We are a YC Top Company with a global, remote team of 600+ people. We have been profitable since 2022, and fill millions of shifts annually at partner workplaces across the US, where tens of thousands of professionals work with us every year.
We are looking for your help to keep growing so we can serve more professionals and workplaces.

We are a globally distributed team with folks from the United States, Canada, Chile, Mongolia, Turkey, India, Madagascar, Ukraine, Indonesia, Brazil, Colombia… and more. Our values center around customer centricity, urgency, curiosity, and ownership. We are all empowered to fix the problems we see, there are no “toes” to be stepped on. A team went off and created a new SaaS product, another team rewrote a core service under a new architecture. We believe in our collective mission and do what it takes to move the needle on that goal.

Your Mission: Build, Lead, and Deliver with Impact

As our Engineering Manager, you are more than a leader—you are a mentor, strategist, and problem solver. You’ll oversee both people and processes, guiding talented engineers toward high-impact delivery. If you are energized by scaling teams, aligning product and engineering goals, and solving real-world problems, this is the perfect opportunity to make your mark.

What You’ll Do: Own the Process, Build the Future

  • Lead and Manage Engineering Teams: You’ll own the team’s process, delivery, and execution, ensuring they work optimally and with high quality.
  • Partner with Product Managers and Customers: Collaborate to create your team’s roadmap, aligning on priorities that meet both business goals and customer needs.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: While you may not code every day, you’ll review PRs, architecture, and design documents, providing technical coaching and feedback to ensure high-quality solutions.
  • Drive Performance Management: You will be responsible for your team’s performance, identifying and addressing any issues proactively. Provide immediate and actionable feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Mentor for Growth: Help engineers realize their full potential, fostering a growth mindset and creating personalized development plans.
  • Own and Optimize Engineering Processes: We believe in streamlining and improving processes. You’ll craft team goals and raise the technical bar across the company, promoting a culture of constant feedback and transparency.
  • Lead Hiring and Talent Development: Participate in all stages of hiring, onboarding, and retaining top talent, contributing to our team’s rapid growth.
  • Solve Problems Proactively: At Clipboard Health, “We don’t have any toes to step on.” If you see a problem, you own it and fix it.
  • Engage in Open Conversations: Expect transparent, open forums where feedback flows freely, and bring your curiosity to engage with first-principles thinking.

What You Bring to the Table: A Unique Blend of Skills and Experience

  • 6+ years of software development experience, with 2+ years leading software development professionals as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, or Founder.
  • Experience managing agile, high-performing teams in fast-paced, geographically dispersed environments.
  • Performance Management Expertise: Comfortable addressing performance issues head-on and providing coaching that empowers engineers at all levels.
  • Customer-Centric Problem Solver: A deep appreciation for customer needs, with the ability to translate ambiguous problems into actionable solutions.
  • Strong Communication Skills: You excel in writing and speaking clearly, breaking down complex concepts into simple components for engineers and non-technical stakeholders alike.
  • Hands-On Development and System Design: While primarily focused on leadership, you maintain technical fluency and experience with system design and coding.
  • Comfortable Navigating Difficult Conversations: You are decisive and direct, capable of delivering constructive feedback and addressing problems promptly.
  • Experienced in Team Growth: Skilled in hiring, onboarding, and retaining top talent to build high-performing teams.
  • Balanced Collaboration: Equally at ease working with technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment at all levels.

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience as a startup founder or in startup environments.
  • Familiarity with Typescript, React, NestJS, or microservices architecture.
  • Proven success managing distributed teams and supporting web or mobile applications.

Why Clipboard Health?

  • 100% remote, flexible working hours.
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Async first, with sync collaboration as it’s needed.
  • This is a high-impact role. From the hiring, onboarding, team execution, and talent practices to customer impact, new verticals, and technical up-levelling of the team: there's room for improvement on it all, and we are looking for people who want to build the new era of Clipboard Health with us.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
