Engineering Manager (Recommendations)

Reach Security (https://reach.security) builds self-driving cybersecurity. Reach employs the first generative AI for cybersecurity to oversee an organization's current security stack, aiming to achieve the best possible security posture with the products already in use.

We are seeking an Engineering Manager (Recommendations) to lead the team responsible for building and scaling the intelligence layer of Reach Security’s platform. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with higher-level strategy and execution. You will remain close to the code while also guiding architecture, driving execution, and shaping the long-term vision of our recommendation systems. The team’s work focuses on some of the most impactful parts of our product: modeling cybersecurity controls, leveraging AI to recommend the right controls for customers, tracking organizational progress toward implementing cybersecurity frameworks, and managing policies that continuously optimize an organization’s security posture.

You will establish technical direction, set engineering best practices, and ensure the systems your team builds are accurate, scalable, and reliable. At the same time, you will lead by example—engaging in design discussions, writing code, conducting reviews, and tackling challenging problems—while also mentoring and growing a high-performing team. Success in this role requires balancing technical depth with strategic vision, aligning engineering priorities with business goals, and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence.

• Lead and grow a team of engineers focused on recommendations (recommendation systems, modeling, controls, policy management, policy deployment, framework mapping).

• Balance hands-on contributions (architecture, code reviews, technical design) with management responsibilities.

• Drive execution of projects from planning to delivery, ensuring timelines, quality, and stakeholder alignment.

• Establish and refine engineering processes around productivity, quality tracking, incident management, and performance recognition.

• Hire and develop top technical talent across different seniorities, acting as a bar raiser in interviews.

• Provide mentorship, set clear expectations, and manage performance across both high and low performers.

• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

• Collaborate closely with product and design to deliver user-facing features with high impact.

• Contribute to long-term application architecture and system design decisions.

• Guide the team through production issues and ensure operational excellence.

• 5+ years of engineering management experience, with proven success leading teams in data, ML/AI, or recommendation systems.

• Prior experience as a senior IC with deep expertise in backend or data systems.

• Strong understanding of AI/ML techniques, especially in recommendation or decision-support systems.

• Experience designing and delivering data-driven products that model complex domains (security, compliance, or similar).

• Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO, CIS) and the ability to translate them into technical systems for measurement and progress tracking.

• Solid foundation in databases, data modeling, and system design for large-scale, data-intensive applications.

• Proficiency in Python and comfort with modern data/ML ecosystems.

• Demonstrated ability to hire, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience in B2B SaaS; cybersecurity industry background is a strong plus.

• Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder.

• Experience building AI-powered recommendation engines or decision-support systems.

• Background in cybersecurity product development, especially in areas related to controls, frameworks, or compliance.

• Proven ability to align data science, engineering, and product strategy to deliver measurable customer impact.
