About Us

Fieldguide is establishing a new state of trust for global commerce and capital markets through automating and streamlining the work of assurance and audit practitioners specifically within cybersecurity, privacy, and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance). Put simply, we build software for the people who enable trust between businesses.

We’re based in San Francisco, CA, but built as a remote-first company that enables you to do your best work from anywhere. We're backed by top investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC, Floodgate, Y Combinator, DNX Ventures, Global Founders Capital, Justin Kan, Elad Gil, and more.

We value diversity — in backgrounds and in experiences. We need people from all backgrounds and walks of life to help build the future of audit and advisory. Fieldguide’s team is inclusive, driven, humble and supportive. We are deliberate and self-reflective about the kind of team and culture that we are building, seeking teammates that are not only strong in their own aptitudes but care deeply about supporting each other's growth.

As an early stage start-up employee, you’ll have the opportunity to build out the future of business trust. We make audit practitioners’ lives easier by eliminating up to 50% of their work and giving them better work-life balance. If you share our values and enthusiasm for building a great culture and product, you will find a home at Fieldguide.

About the Role

As the Senior Engineering Manager for our Infrastructure Platform team, you will lead the group responsible for Fieldguide’s core platform infrastructure. This team is accountable for the stability, resiliency, security, and performance of the underlying systems that power Fieldguide’s cloud platform You will report to the Head of Engineering and manage a team of 3–8 engineers (initially 3), including infrastructure, platform, and SRE engineers. Your mission is to translate the high-level strategy provided by senior leadership into an actionable roadmap and concrete goals for your team, driving execution quarter-to-quarter. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role focused on engineering execution and team development – it is internally focused rather than involving external customer negotiations or sales responsibilities. We operate a remote-first culture with the option to work from our San Francisco office, so you can be based anywhere (with occasional travel for team offsites or meetings as needed).

Our tech stack includes modern cloud and DevOps technologies: Fieldguide’s platform runs on TypeScript and Python services, with Kubernetes on AWS for orchestration, and everything defined in code via Terraform and automated through CI/CD pipelines. A strong technical background in this domain will be essential for guiding the team and making informed decisions. You will work closely with other engineering teams and leadership to ensure our infrastructure scales reliably and our developers have a best-in-class experience building on the platform. This role is ideal for an experienced engineering manager who enjoys shaping engineering practices, improving systems at scale, and mentoring a team – all within a fast-paced startup environment where infrastructure excellence is critical to company success.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the Infrastructure Platform Team: Manage, mentor, and inspire a team of infrastructure and SRE engineers. Foster a high-performance, inclusive team culture that embodies Fieldguide’s values and produces excellent results.

  • Roadmap Planning & Execution: Own the quarterly planning for your team – prioritize and define a roadmap of infrastructure initiatives (spanning developer experience, system reliability, operational health, and scalability) in alignment with the overall engineering strategy. Drive the execution of these plans to meet goals and deliver on schedule.

  • Ensure Reliability and Scalability: Take responsibility for the reliability, availability, and performance of Fieldguide’s platform. Oversee efforts to harden our systems for high uptime and fault tolerance (e.g. improving redundancy, latency, and incident response processes) to support our growing customer base.

  • Improve Developer Experience: Champion initiatives that make our developers more effective. This includes evolving our CI/CD pipelines, build/test infrastructure, and internal developer tools to streamline workflows and reduce friction in shipping code.

  • Drive Key Infrastructure Initiatives: Lead major technical projects that prepare our platform for the next level of scale. Examples include coordinating multi-region deployments (to support global availability), enhancing observability/telemetry across services, and implementing security and compliance measures in the platform. You will break down these large projects into actionable tasks, assign ownership, and guide the team through design, implementation, and rollout.

  • Technical Leadership & Collaboration: Leverage your deep infrastructure expertise to make high-level technical decisions and ensure engineering excellence. You will review architecture and designs, help troubleshoot complex issues, and maintain standards for code quality and operational best practices. Collaborate cross-functionally with application engineering teams, product managers, and QA to ensure platform improvements align with product needs and integrate smoothly.

  • Translate Strategy into Action: Work closely with the Head of Engineering and other leaders to understand Fieldguide’s platform strategy and OKRs. Translate those into team-level plans and clearly communicate direction, priorities, and progress to stakeholders. Adjust plans as needed based on feedback and changing requirements, keeping the team focused on the most impactful work.

Who You Are

  • Engineering Leadership Experience: 3–6+ years of engineering management experience, including successfully leading teams of software/infrastructure engineers. You have a track record of hiring strong talent, coaching engineers’ growth, and managing performance to build high-performing teams.

  • Technical Background in Infrastructure: ~10+ years of overall software engineering experience, with significant focus in infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering roles (e.g. SRE, DevOps engineer, systems engineer). You have deep knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure and operational best practices – for example, hands-on experience with cloud providers (especially AWS), container orchestration (Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform), networking, and system security.

  • Proven Execution & Scaling: Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver complex engineering projects that improved reliability, scalability, or developer productivity. You can point to examples of systems you’ve scaled or processes you’ve implemented (such as multi-region architectures, monitoring/observability frameworks, or security improvements) to support business growth.

  • Hands-On and Detail-Oriented: While you are a people manager, you remain comfortable diving into technical details. You can contribute to architectural discussions, conduct code or infrastructure reviews, and guide incident post-mortems. Your breadth of technical expertise earns you respect from engineers, and you use it to make informed decisions and mentor the team.

  • Excellent Communicator & Collaborator: Effective at communicating vision and technical concepts to both engineers and executives. You foster strong cross-team collaboration, working well with product managers, other engineering teams, and possibly customer-facing teams (when coordinating on reliability or support issues). Your high EQ and leadership skills help you resolve conflicts, motivate your team, and build trust across the organization.

  • Startup Mindset: Thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment. You thrive in fast-moving environments, where speed, ownership, and adaptability matter just as much as technical rigor. You know how to balance urgency with thoughtfulness, and help teams stay focused without burning out. Previous startup experience is a plus – you understand the trade-offs and creative problem-solving needed in a high-growth company. You take ownership of outcomes (we act like Owners at Fieldguide) and continuously seek ways to improve engineering efficiency and quality.
