About the role:

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead Garner’s Data management team, which is made up of Analytics Engineers and Data Engineers. This team builds and governs the pipelines, DBT models, and curated datasets that power analytics, data science, and product features across the company.

What you will do:
  • Lead a team of Analytics Engineers and Data Engineers delivering production-grade data products
  • Drive Garner’s data governance strategy: lineage, quality checks, contracts, metadata management, and compliance with regulated data standards
  • Partner closely with the Data Engineering (infrastructure) team to ensure data products run seamlessly on shared platforms
  • Provide technical guidance in data modeling, performance tuning, orchestration, and dataset design
  • Collaborate with product, analytics, and data science stakeholders to deliver trusted, business-aligned data products
  • Mentor the team, foster best practices, and grow Garner’s next generation of data engineering leaders
What you will bring to the team:
  • 6+ years of experience working in the software engineering industry
  • 3+ years of experience working in a Data Engineering function
  • 1+ years of experience managing data analytics engineers or data engineers
  • Proven experience with DBT and modern data stack tools (Spark, Iceberg, AWS Glue, Dagster, Soda, Airflow, etc.)
  • Strong track record implementing data governance frameworks: data quality, lineage, cataloging, and access management
  • Expertise in storage/query optimization in cloud-based environments
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and translate complex business requirements into a well-executed technical roadmap
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g. HIPAA, EDI) is highly desirable
  • A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and do whatever is necessary to ensure company success
  • Experience working in a rapidly evolving startup environment
  • A desire to be a part of our mission to improve the U.S. healthcare system

Technologies we use:

  • Python, Kubernetes, Postgres, NATS, AWS, Terraform, SQL, DBT, Daggster, Argo, Airflow
Compensation Transparency:

The target salary range for this position is $240,000 - $275,000. Individual compensation for this role will depend on various factors, including qualifications, skills, and applicable laws. What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
