Come and be you with us
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Group Lead to lead the engineering organization behind HiBob’s Talent Acquisition domain.
This is a significant engineering leadership role, leading a group of approximately 17 people across multiple teams, with seven direct reports. In addition to your responsibilities as Group Lead, you will serve as the most senior leader at our Zagreb site, providing local leadership and supporting site coordination and occasional operational needs.
You’ll be responsible for the group’s engineering direction, execution, and people leadership, working closely with Product and other R&D leaders to evolve and scale our Talent capabilities.
We’re looking for a leader who combines strong people leadership with technical and architectural depth - someone who can develop leaders, drive execution across multiple teams, and connect long-term technical direction with immediate product and business impact.
Job requirements
  • 3+ years of experience as a Group Lead or equivalent, leading multiple engineering teams and managers in a fast-paced SaaS or platform company.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong hands-on technical foundation.
  • 5+ years of people-management experience, with a proven track record of developing engineering managers, technical leaders, and high-performing teams.
  • Experience with AI-driven development practices, tooling, or agentic technologies.
  • Proven experience owning and scaling a significant product, module, or technical domain in a SaaS environment.
  • Experience leading engineering organizations through scale-up, with deep expertise in scalable systems, backend services, and infrastructure, and the ability to assess trade-offs, challenge assumptions, and guide long-term architectural decisions.
  • A strategic mindset - able to connect long-term architectural direction with immediate product and business impact.
  • Excellent people leadership skills - you inspire trust, develop talent, and lead through influence and context, not control.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to drive alignment across distributed, global teams.
  • Experience working across multiple geographies and cultures.
  • Experience operating in complex environments with multiple stakeholders, dependencies, and competing priorities.
The following are a big plus
  • Experience in HR tech, fintech, or other complex information-system environments.
  • Strong experience with backend services, distributed systems, or data-intensive products.
  • Experience contributing to engineering site leadership or working with external engineering vendors.
  • Experience providing senior leadership at a local site, with the ability to guide teams, support site coordination, and take ownership of occasional operational needs.

Job responsibilities
  • Define and execute the technical vision for the Talent Acquisition group, ensuring the domain can continue to scale as part of HiBob’s broader platform and product ecosystem.
  • Lead and mentor multiple engineering leaders and teams, fostering growth, accountability, ownership, and technical excellence, while setting clear goals and KPIs to measure progress and drive continuous improvement.
  • Own engineering delivery across the group, translating product and business priorities into clear technical and execution plans.
  • Provide architectural leadership across the domain, guiding decisions on scalability, reliability, maintainability, infrastructure, and long-term technical evolution, and deliver high-level prototypes to validate concepts through proofs of concept (POCs) and beta testing.
  • Partner closely with Product and other R&D leaders to shape the roadmap and ensure engineering strategy supports both customer needs and HiBob’s broader business objectives.
  • Create alignment and clear ownership across multiple teams while identifying and resolving cross-team dependencies and technical challenges.
  • Shape and grow the group - evolve its structure, recruit great talent, develop future leaders, and ensure teams have the right capabilities and ownership to succeed.
  • Identify and develop engineering managers, tech leads, and senior individual contributors, building a strong leadership pipeline within the group.
  • Collaborate across HiBob’s global R&D organization, driving alignment with Architecture, Platform, DevOps, and other engineering groups where needed.
  • Collaborate with external companies, vendors, and suppliers to support the development of the group.
  • Act as the most senior leader at our Zagreb site, providing local guidance and helping with site coordination and occasional operational matters.
  • Champion engineering excellence through continuous improvements in developer effectiveness, AI tooling and practices, system stability, quality, and operational visibility.
  • Balance short-term delivery with long-term technical health, ensuring teams can move quickly without compromising the scalability and maintainability of the product.
    Location
This role follows a hybrid working model at our Zagreb site.
