VP of Hardware

As the VP of Hardware at WHOOP, you’ll lead and continue to build talented teams spanning Firmware, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering responsible for the physical components of the WHOOP products. These teams are responsible for building the WHOOP strap, a low powered, highly durable device that’s made to continuously monitor users who range from elite athletes to fitness enthusiasts. The ideal candidate will leverage a technical background in consumer electronics to manage an experienced team to success, while acting as a cross functional hub in our start-up like environment. You will work closely with the Chief Technology Officer to continue to innovate on the WHOOP strap and work on developing new and exciting technologies from ideation through manufacturing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize, manage, and lead multiple engineering teams across electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and embedded engineering to success
- Coach and mentor technical contributors and managers, some who will be first-time managers
- Own the roadmap, timelines, and budget for bringing hardware products to market
- Work closely with the product and other technical teams to define features and specifications based on the company’s vision, user feedback, and market opportunities
- Work collaboratively in a startup environment across high performing technical teams including Digital Signal Processing, Product, Data Science, Software, and Marketing to deliver a best in class product to consumers
- You will be the go-to person for all hardware related questions, issues, suggestions, and feedback
- Not afraid to roll up your sleeves and directly dive into root causing technical issues if necessary
QUALIFICATIONS
- Director or VP level professional experience in hardware engineering, ideally from the consumer electronics space, with experience managing talented, experienced engineers and managers
- Knowledge and wisdom honed by years of experience bringing hardware products to the market
- Experience scaling a world class team
- Strong curiosity resulting in constant learning of new things and questioning the status quo
- Strong communication skills to both technical and non-technical team members, including executive management
- Experience with physiological sensing and biomedical signals is a plus.
