Job Qualifications:

Aurora Flight Sciences’s Test and Evaluation Group supports Aurora’s efforts in the test and evaluation of parts, component assemblies, subsystem assemblies, and full vehicle assemblies as part of our vehicle research and development programs. Test and Evaluation Engineers are expected to support programs from initial stages through completion, providing guidance on the development of test plans for vehicles, the development of test support equipment and instrumentation, and the eventual execution and documentation of test results. This also includes planning and supporting flight test operations in conjunction with our flight operations team and Aurora’s cadre of test pilots. These activities may also include qualification and certification test activities. T&E Engineers are expected to work closely with engineers from other sectors of the engineering organization, including structures, avionics, software, mechanical and propulsion systems. T&E Engineers are also expected to work closely with the other groups in the Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test Division, including the Systems Engineering Group and the Chief Engineers.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, including experts in aerodynamics, flight controls, structures, human factors, autonomy, robotics, flight controls, and flight testing to plan, coordinate, and execute tests.

    • Lead or support the development and review of test plans for parts, component assemblies, subsystem assemblues, or full aircraft assemblies in support of Aurora programs

    • Lead or support the development of Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMPs) in support of overall program planning, development, and execution

    • Lead or support the execution of developed test plans for internal test and verification, formal qualification testing, and certification

    • Lead or support the documentation of test results and present those findings as required to Aurora engineering representatives, customers, or regulatory authorities

  • Lead or support the generation of materials for customer reports and business development

  • Lead or support the generation of materials for customer briefings and business development

  • Lead or support proposal writing in support of new business

  • Support the group lead in defining and refining group processes

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen or US Permanent Resident/Green Card Holder).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant engineering fields

  • Advanced experience in test planning and execution for components, assemblies, subsystems, vehicles, and/or flight testing programs

  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards and certification techniques

  • 3 years of relevant industry experience in test and evaluation activities

  • Demonstrated experience of success in a highly collaborative environment with excellent English written and oral communications skills.

 

Desired Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or better in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant engineering fields

  • Experience with DO160 certification of aircraft equipment

  • Experience with testing that leads to FAA Experimental, Part 23 or Part 25 Aircraft Certification

  • Experience specifying and installing instrumentation for a variety of testing
