We are more than just another tech company. There is an intellectual curiosity that occurs at Drizly. We have a desire to question, to understand, to figure it out. Bottom line, we solve it. We value not just the truth but the process to get to the truth, to deliberate, decide and then act. Most importantly, we care. We care about our customer. We care about our company. We care about our team. There will be long days and incredible challenges.
We are blazing a trail in an industry that hasn’t changed in nearly a century, and that doesn’t scare us (well, not all the time) -and even when it does, it doesn’t stop us, it energizes us.
Do you see yourself here? Read on.
Who you are
You are a tech-savvy engineer that thrives on building things with real-world applications that you and your friends could talk about. Comfort with learning and adopting new technologies helps you keep your technical skills fresh, so you’re someone who’s comfortable experimenting until you find the tech that works. You manage complexity by approaching problems with curiosity to define issues before acting on solutions. You have the experience, instincts, and analytical mindset to make quality, timely decisions.
Coworkers would describe you as a flexible, open communicator that can balance taking action with driving results and you know/can clearly articulate the difference. You are also someone who takes personal responsibility for your work and holds others accountable to do the same.
You are passionate about designing systems that power great end-user experiences. You care deeply about system performance, especially where it impacts customers. You have worked in environments where you owned system design from the database to the API. You enjoy discussing these decisions with your peers and can explain their significance to external stakeholders.
You enjoy providing technical guidance to more junior team members. You are constantly looking for ways to improve the team's development practices. You are a believer in the value of thorough code review and test coverage.
You ideally have three to five years of experience working with backend web technologies. We write most of our core systems in Ruby, but we are flexible on your specific experience; we care more about general engineering acumen than any specific tech. We would be really impressed if you had experience in eCommerce, payment systems, or the food and beverage technology space.
What the role is
The Core Services team is a crucial part of Drizly’s backbone. Our team is building features that keep our payments, inventory, catalog, and search capabilities up and running. These features are vital to making our consumer experience unique and valuable as we continue to scale our platform to reach every alcohol consumer in the United States.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will be an integral part of our Core Services Engineering team, focusing primarily on the continued improvement and implementation of our payment systems. You will also be executing on our product roadmaps against the back-end of our consumer and retailer (think liquor store operations) tools with aggressive timelines during rapid growth. By partnering closely with product managers, customer experience, sales, and account management teams, you will balance “having your hands on the keyboard” with leading design discussions for large projects and informing some of our largest decisions. You will also recommend new ways of doing things as we expect Senior Software Engineers to raise the bar for the team.
In this role you will:
- Build upon and maintain our existing financial and payment systems, spearheading continuous improvement
- Work with Product, UX, and other stakeholders to design, implement, document and maintain features for different properties of the Drizly platform
- Participate in technical design and architecture discussions with the team
- Write well tested, performant code and participate in code reviews with the team
- Provide technical guidance to more junior team members
- Work with the engineering organization to level up technical processes, code quality, and system design
- Consult with the business on the feasibility and/or level of effort required for certain projects
The Other Stuff:
- Competitive Salary
- One-on-one professional coaching with an external expert
- Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
- Flexible vacation policy
- Commuter benefits
- 401(K) Plan with Employer Match
- Added perks
You do you.
