Senior Performance Engineer (Database Internals)
The world loves Postgres. If you work with developers or data scientists or anyone wrangling data, you’ll probably see a sticker with the tusks and trunk of the Postgres elephant on the lid of a nearby laptop. EDB has a lot to do with that.

We are currently looking for a 100% Remote hands-on Senior Performance Engineer (Database Internals) to join our Postgres Distributed (PGD) team. As a core capability of our portfolio, PGD enables our customers with high available and performant multi-node and cross regional Postgres clusters for modern distributed computing enviornments. You will be responsible for recommending ways to improve the performance of the product and in some cases implementing such recommendations while building strategic replication technology. This role is an individual contributor that gets to work with top notch innovative technology resolving real life challenges from customer feedback. You have potential to grow into a leadership and/or management role.
*Candidate Note: this role is 100% remote based in the EU or U.S.
Your Impact:
- Write database performance tests based on real world customer scenarios. These tasks will be done in close collaboration with product management and technical product owners.
- Work with the larger product development team to identify specific ways to optimize the product source code both in the short term with targeted changes and in the long term with different design approaches and implementation strategies.
- Design, code, and test new PGD capabilities requested by customers.
- Identify tools and document approaches for the larger development team to identify opportunities to improve product performance.
- Automate performance tests and seek ways to identify performance regressions through automation.
- Keep up to date with performance tools and performance optimization techniques in the industry and help the product team adopt best practices around performance.
- Help identify optimal configuration settings for performance.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them to executable tasks.
Your Technical Profile:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed international team.
- 5+ years of experience working as a hands-on software engineer, optimizing software products and identifying performance bottlenecks.
- Strong problem-solving skills, at times this may be under pressure when in production.
- Ability program in Python or similar language and the ability to read C code and write small changes to help improve performance.
- Experience with software performance analysis tools for products written in the C/C++ programming language. Strong C programming skills.
- Strong understanding of Linux and performance techniques for identifying performance.
