Job Qualifications:

Aurora Flight Sciences is a world-leader in developing robot hardware for new aerospace applications. We bring innovative robot prototypes to life by developing and applying state-of-the-art technologies in sensing, actuation, planning, design, and system verification & validation.

Specific Responsibilities:

The Robotics Research Engineer contributes to conceptualizing, designing, building, testing, and demonstrating robots for aircraft manufacturing, ground operations, and flight. This work is performed in dynamic simulation, controlled lab settings, hardware-in-the-loop simulations, and on full-scale flight or manufacturing systems.   

The Robotics Research Engineer position is for candidates with demonstrated ability to propose, execute, and communicate innovative robotics research who wish to continue leading innovative research. The candidate must also contribute as a Subject Matter Expert in their expertise area(s). 

Position is available for both hardware and software-oriented roboticists.

Minimum Requirements:

PhD in robotics-related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience proposing, executing, and communicating advanced robotics research.

Must be a US Person (citizen or permanent resident)

Candidates must have demonstrated excellence (Subject Matter Expert) in at least one of the following, and a working knowledge or interest in a majority of the others:

  • Robot manipulation
  • Actuator design
  • Real-time computation
  • Power electronics
  • Trajectory planning
  • Electromechanical system design
  • Machine vision
  • Rapid prototyping
  • Dynamic simulation
  • Tactile sensing
  • Math
  • Low-level motor control
  • Acceptance testing of physical robot hardware
  • Real-time control of multi-DOF robots
  • Software engineering
  • Communication protocols
  • Embedded systems

Candidates must have strong written and oral communication ability.

Candidates should have a zeal for working on high-functioning and diverse teams and for making real systems work.

Physical Requirements:

Occasionally required to travel

Shift Requirements:

Occasionally required to work non-business hours to support experiments and travel to customer sites
