Perception and Sensing Group Lead
Job Qualifications (basic job description): The Perception and Sensing Group is part of the Autonomy Division at Aurora Flight Sciences. Aurora is seeking a dynamic Group Lead to manage the team and help spearhead Aurora’s efforts to create unique perception and autonomy capabilities for unmanned aerospace systems. In addition to excellent demonstrated leadership skills, qualified candidates will be expected to have experience in optical systems hardware and computer vision software to architect vehicle autonomy solution using vision-based localization and mapping algorithms. The qualifying engineer will have the capability of integrating hardware, firmware, and software such as cameras, lasers, LEDs, IMUs on an embedded hardware platform such as NVidia Tegra/Jetson or Intel NUC. Experience with C/C++ in Linux and parallel programming on GPGPU using OpenCL or CUDA is required. The candidate should have experience in utilizing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software packages such as OpenCV. The engineer is expected to properly document and present results to enable further growth of future commercial and government ventures.
Specific Responsibilities: Manage the Perception and Sensing Group, including technical mentorship and functional management of a team of individual contributors. Develop new perception and autonomy concepts and work with funding agencies to garner program support. Perform independent and team research and development involving architecting, coding, testing, and integrating system-level hardware and software for enabling new capabilities in aerospace autonomy, control, and estimation. Create reports and perform customer presentations detailing work performed, support proposal preparation, and establish a company reputation for quality and expertise. Work side-by-side with world-class researchers to create software, algorithms, and systems for innovative autonomy-related products and tools that will change the world.
Minimum Requirements (education and experience): PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and 5+ years of experience developing machine vision solutions with demonstrated involvement in substantial software system development in the disciplines described above. Must be a US Person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident).
Physical Requirements: Ability to support some travel
