Job Description

As a member of one of our Technology teams, you will contribute to building solutions that use natural language processing, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence applications or the frameworks and infrastructure that support them.

NLP Modeling Engineers are responsible for producing innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from complex and high-dimensional datasets. They develop high-performance speech recognition models and/or algorithms and support integration of the results into products. The NLP Scientists work with a development team to collect and prepare audio and text data in English and/or multiple languages to build models, using the latest techniques, and deploy these models into live services. Engineers use data query tools and model building tools and apply custom analysis and tuning improvements to build high performance models of Interactions applications

Interactions is looking for a talented and curious Speech Scientist with a strong history in building Statistical Language Models, and using Machine Learning for classification. At Interactions we push the envelope in Natural Language Understanding (NLU) to provide the best-possible experience for our customers.

As a member of the Speech and Language team, you will work with leading people in the industry to develop modeling techniques to advance the state of the art in spoken language understanding.  This work is high profile and will have a direct impact on the company and our industry’s leading customer care solutions.  The work requires discipline in analyzing data, documenting experiments, and testing and releasing model updates. NLP model engineers have access to tools for high level model builds and edits but must also be able to execute and adjust the models manually if required.

NLP Model engineers use machine learning on large samples of data to create natural language models for understanding of intent from input cals
The successful candidate has strong linux working skills in creating scripts in python and bash. An NLP Model Engineer must be comfortable with writing SQL queries and processing results with data analysis tools including python, pandas, and excel. Candidates should have skills in editing data with batch operations using regular expressions and python scripting. Model engineers must perform careful tests and experiments of NLP models and should have fundamental understanding of the concepts involved in testing for functionality, testing for large scale performance, and regression testing to ensure previous test cases continue to work.
Minimum Requirements:

• Writing and using SQL queries.
• Loading data and manipulating data in CSV or JSON format.
• Strong experience with regular expressions
• Ability to handle data format transformations with linux commands like awk, sed, paste, etc..
• Strong communications skills to communicate status, ask clarifying questions, or seek out answers to incomplete specifications of work requests.
• Optimization of software including code profilers, cache systems, memory mapping, and analysis of software system metrics.
• Experience with python, pandas, excel, python notebooks.
• Software configuration management: experience with git or svn.
• Bachelor degree in computer science or engineering 
• Engineers in this role are expected to have a minimum of 3-5+ years of experience in working with databases, python programming, and linux systems.

Additional Experience Items: the following experience items would be helpful in this position

• Masters Degree in computer science with specialization in data analysis or natural language processing or machine learning.
• Previous experience in machine learning and natural language processing and speech recognition
• Experience with machine learning tools and libraries like numpy, sklearn, pytorch, and tensor flow
• Fluency in additional languages other than English
