Job Summary

Position summary:

 

We are looking for a High-Performance Compute (HPC) System Support Associate to join our global team operating and maintaining our 24x7 HPC environments for Nuance’s Automotive division.

Nuance’s Automotive Division is the number 1 artificial intelligence partner to global automotive OEMs working in partnership to deliver a user experience that is smarter, safer, and more connected.

You will be part of a team that helps deploy, configure, and maintain large scale, leading edge systems of high complexity. You will need the ability to diagnose and resolve difficult problems in the configuration, tuning, and management of both compute and storage platforms. The High-Performance Compute Team ensures our systems are reliable and secure and provide a state-of-the-art Research and Development environment with the tools needed by our diverse community of users.
 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

1) Install, test, maintain and manage High-Performance Compute systems across multiple regions (Europe, APAC, Americas).

2) Work as part of the HPC Team to diagnose and fix incidents. Analyze system issues and develop and implement workarounds and/or patches for software bugs.

3) Drive problem management initiatives for HPC ensuring re-occurring incidents are permanently fixed.  

4) Collaborate on systems programming projects to maintain and enhance system functionality, in areas such as monitoring, workload management and file systems and I/O subsystems.

5) Understand customer/user needs to develop and enhance user tools to manage task automation on the computational systems.

6) Recommend and drive the implementation of system improvements that enhance reliability, stability, usability, performance and security.

7) Identify and evaluate emerging HPC technologies and explore new features that would create new capabilities and enhance system performance and usability.

8) Assist with technology evaluations and system architecture to provide input for HPC system procurements and technology roadmaps.

9) Be part of an on-call team that provides 24x7 systems support.
 

10) Perform tasks related to securing and keeping the products, tools, and processes that you are responsible for securing

 

Knowledge, skills and qualifications 

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

 

Minimum years of work experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience with systems programming or management of large-scale UNIX based systems in a high-performance computing (HPC) environment.

 

Required skills: 

• Hands-on experience with big data solutions, such as Hadoop, Spark, data lake
• Knowledge of back-up strategies, clustering and load balancing for large data sets.
• Experience with installation, configuration, monitoring, and tuning of workload management systems such as SLURM, Grid Engine or Torque
• Experience with cloud native services like Kubernetes, Helm, Prometheus, Minio, Avere.
• Experience with C and shell/PERL/Python systems programming as well as with processor, interconnect, and storage technologies for High Performance Computing systems.
• Familiarity with UNIX/Linux internals.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in large projects, and contribute to an active intellectual environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Understand user needs and show initiative, tact and good judgment in developing solutions to problems.

 

Preferred skills:

• Experience migrating BI solutions from on-premises to public cloud environments, using modern data warehousing architectures.
• Reporting platforms such as Power BI and MicroStrategy.      
• Experience with Azure Active Directory and complex role-based user management solutions in LDAP.
• Hands-on experience of technologies such as data bricks, data factory, and Power Shell scripting.
• Familiarity with ML/AI frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
