Electrical Component Engineer
At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.
As a Component Engineer at WHOOP, you will work with the Electrical, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure consistent supply of high quality product to our growing member base. You will own the process of creating and maintaining the PDM and engineering component databases, including creating and releasing individual components and high level electrical assembly Bills of Materials (BOMs). You will actively support the electrical design teams in evaluation of component choices by researching the component market, reviewing electrical requirements, performing evaluation tests, and identifying secondary component sources that can be used in mass production to guarantee consistent supply and product performance. In the process, you will interface directly with component manufacturers, distributors, and contract manufacturers (CMs) to identify components, source parts, and execute validation build and test plans. You are familiar with electrical concepts, electrical component specifications, and have the vocabulary to work with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and technicians.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ownership of electrical and electromechanical component product lifecycle management systems, including component creation, engineering change order (ECO) and release processes, and ongoing maintenance of PDM and engineering databases
- Proactive identification, qualification, and release of electrical components that meet electrical, electromechanical, and cost requirements
- Gather component requirements, participate in electrical schematic and layout reviews, perform commodity market research, source, and validate secondary electrical component sources based on engineering requirements, availability, and supply chain forecasting
- Develop and execute on cross-functional component validation plans, creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), assigning performance and reliability test criteria, reviewing results, and making recommendations to the design team
- Review supply forecast and develop strategies with supply chain and engineering design teams to avoid line stoppage
- Enforcement of schematic symbol and component footprint standards
- Review and approve component IQC procedures and reports from manufacturing
- Create ECOs to release BOM updates to PDM databases
- Hand rework and electrical performance measurement of components in the lab
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS or greater in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years experience in relevant fields
- Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including electrical component specifications
- Lab experience including creating wiring harnesses, surface mount soldering of microminiature electrical and electromechanical components, and the proficient use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, SMUs, RF analyzers, etc.
- Familiarity with ECAD tools such as Altium and PDM/SLM tools like Arena
