Against that backdrop, we are seeking a talented technology leader for the newly-created position ofDirector of Azure Hosting Engineering. The overarching focus of this Director be the delivery, fulfillment, and sustainment of an enterprise-scale cloud hosting system. Among other things, this will include building the team, defining a strategy for Azure migration, and establishing the standards, metrics, and operational processes that are necessary for such a system.

The Director will own a budget of $3-5 million and will lead a team of roughly 25 resources, comprised of both Humana associates and external contractors.

 

Responsibilities

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead set of teams responsible for Azure Hosting architecture, technical implementation, Landing Zone build and fulfillment, and/or Feature-driven technology initiatives requiring cloud engineering design and implementation.
  • Deliver Implementation of Production and Non-Production Azure environments allowing for the proper testing and lifecycle of technology implemented in the Azure cloud.
  • Establish Engineering Governance and management of the Azure environment in agreement with IT Security requirements and best practices.
  • Maintain a modern compliant Azure environment across production and non-production environments.
  • Develops and establishes strategic and long-range goals and direction for Foundation Features and Services in support of the Foundation Product Team and sustainability.
  • Demonstrates leadership in technology architecture at Humana. Publishes technology strategy documents for Foundation design and architecture internally. Evaluates and implements new technology appropriately.
  • Maintains and fosters internal client relationships. Takes ownership of the relationship and ensure that clients’ objectives are met.
  • Manage the team’s budget and provide budget forecasts (labor and non-labor).
  • Liaisons with and offers strategic direction to related application development and infrastructure teams on infrastructure application services such as automation, monitoring, middleware and engineering enablement.
  • Plans and manages resources ensuring all projects meet obligations and budget expectations.
  • Analyzes customer and business requirements, and assists team functions in the determination of priorities and application of resources.
  • Provide leadership to a team of technology professionals, driving associate engagement initiatives, developing and managing talent, and leading change efforts.
     

               

Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have deep subject matter expertise with cloud technology, particularly with Azure, and will possess extensive (typically 8+ years) of transformational experience, preferably running cloud at scale.  This person will also have a proven record of success in building, developing, and leading a high-performing team of technology professionals, preferably an Engineering team, and ideally over a period of at least five years.  Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is highly preferred.

 

In addition to the above, the following technical qualifications and personal attributes are also sought:

  • Experience creating and delivering complex enterprise initiatives and programs
  • Experience migrating enterprise applications to a major cloud provider (Azure is preferred) 
  • Excellent organizational and business planning capabilities, including experience with managing and forecasting budgets
  • Experience operating in an agile DevOps oriented organization and culture 
  • A technical business acumen that ensures the organization is operating efficiently and effectively in a hybrid environment 
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the polish, poise, and executive presence that will ensure effective interaction with senior and executive level audiences
  • The ability to clearly explain complex ideas and technologies to non-technical audiences
  • Experience in managing change by leading and energizing others, modeling adaptability, and inspiring strong organizational performance through periods of transformation, ambiguity, and complexity
  • Experience managing external vendor relationships
  • Cloud-related professional certifications, such as Certified Cloud Practitioner, Certified Azure Solutions Architect, etc. is highly desirable, but not required.
