Position Overview:

We are looking for an Autonomy Systems Architect to help us design and deploy next generation aircraft systems to enable unmanned aircraft to safely fly within the National Airspace System (NAS). This individual will apply strong systems engineering skills, software engineering skills, and autonomy domain knowledge to solve the challenges in engineering unmanned aircraft that effectively interact with air traffic control and other airspace users to achieve regular access to the NAS. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, this individual will take these autonomy systems from concept to the field, making critical contributions to the architectural concept design of autonomy software systems  for both existing and new, purpose-built aircraft.

Responsibilities:

Candidate will perform engineering related to development of autonomous systems and integration of these aircraft into the NAS while using a broad spectrum of tools and technologies to meet both internal analysis and external client requirements. Expect a team environment with self-motivated, highly trained professionals.

  • Work within a team environment to investigate and resolve complex problems
  • Work on high-level system software architectures and development, including requirements development
  • Trying to sprinkle in “software” since this person is really a SW system architect.  We aren’t asking him/her to design an aircraft, just the autonomy system.
  • Lead teams in the implementation of system software designs
  • Lead integration and deployment of designed systems
  • Support project activities involving collaboration with FAA and industry stakeholders
  • Provide aviation and air traffic control domain knowledge continuously to further knowledge across the company and add insight on projects
  • Lead analyses, diagnoses, and updates to system designs and implementations
  • Develop improvements to procedures, concepts and system designs that lead to enhanced system performance
  • Review specifications, requirements, proposals, and other engineering documents
  • Communicate effectively with team members, internal clients, and external clients
  • Act as a Customer Advocate, bringing customer issues to the full development team

Requirements:

  • Exemplary work ethic.  Engineers are expected to contribute significantly from day one, whether they are creating flight code for a new aircraft, designing a robotic co-pilot, or conceptualizing a UAV pilot interface. A key Aurora value is to “maintain a sense of urgency and a bias towards action.”
  • Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or multiple areas listed below:
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to synthesize customer requirements and create innovative solutions to meet customer needs
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and related tools preferred

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident/Green Card Holder)
  • Education: BS MS or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Years of Experience: 5+
