Our Opportunity:

Chewy is hiring an Associate Director, Infrastructure & Cloud Networking for our Infrastructure Engineering organization in either Boston, MA.  As the Infrastructure & Cloud Networking team leader, you will own the technical vision for and execution of the initiatives of this team, working to manage and improve the team's effectiveness, quality, and efficiency. You will be leading a team of engineers operating and improving all enterprise infrastructure including; corporate sites, call centers, fulfillment centers, data centers, and cloud networking.  You will collaborate across the business to gather requirements, create best practices, and deliver infrastructure solutions while ensuring scalability and reliability. The ideal candidate will have proven, hands-on experience managing a team of engineers and maturing team operations. What You'll Do:

  • Manage and lead a team of engineers responsible for Chewy's enterprise on-premise infrastructure & cloud networking operations
  • Apply vision, strategy, and thought leadership to impact Chewy, at scale
  • Work with others in engineering leadership to drive best practices in the design, implementation, operations, and adoption of Chewy's public cloud platform (AWS)
  • Scale the network and infrastructure teams and coach them to higher levels of technical, engineering, and operational maturity
  • Work with leadership for career pathing and escalation of issues
  • Establish strong working relationships at all organizational levels and across functional teams
  • Identify and manage priorities within the context of overall Chewy objectives
  • Establish standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure the integrity of infrastructure systems and compliance with company IT standards, policies, and processes
  • Work with the teams to automate all processes under your purview to the greatest degree possible
  • Establish and ensure service level agreements are met
  • Become well versed with Chewy tech stack allowing you to understand the requirements and expectations
  • Drive technical decisions and be accountable for the delivery of solutions on initiatives in support of corporate strategic objectives
  • Partner with the Director, Infrastructure Engineering, and internal customers on roadmap definition and the prioritization of initiatives to align with business goals
  • Participate in Quarterly Planning Sessions
  • Implement process measurements to ensure quality standards and produce weekly, monthly, and quarterly business review reports
  • Inspire and maintain a positive atmosphere of innovation and success across a diverse team of engineers

What You'll Need:

  • A minimum of 10 years experience in IT
  • Bachelor's degree in computer sciences or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in Infrastructure Engineering Management
  • Operate as a self-directed leader who maintains focus on goals without intensive oversight
  • Experience owning highly available and fault-tolerant enterprise and web-scale infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff
  • Experience building a culture centered around a DevOps mindset
  • Demonstrated history of implementing and managing enterprise infrastructure, data center, and cloud engineering projects
  • Broad working technical knowledge of IT infrastructure (networking, virtualization, storage, compute, cloud)
  • Strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals, infrastructure, and cloud constructs (Cisco, AWS preferred)
  • Experience in the design, development, and deployment of networking technology solutions in public cloud infrastructure at scale (AWS preferred)
  • Deep understanding of technology industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices
  • Strong customer relationship skills, consensus-building skills, and ability to establish effective working relationships in a diverse environment
  • Attention to detail, schedule awareness, and ability to drive the organization to healthy and timely results
  • A thorough understanding of problem, incident, and change management processes and modern best practices
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical people
  • Proven record in attracting, developing, and motivating the talent needed for current and future business needs
  • Demonstration of maintaining high-performance expectations and leading teams to achieve results in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work non-traditional work schedules, including weekends
  • Willingness to travel

Bonus:

  • Experience building, administering, troubleshooting, deploying, and configuring cloud networks
  • Infrastructure DevOps platform understanding for on-premise and within Cloud (AWS preferred) environments
  • Experience in e-commerce
  • Technical certification in relevant technologies ( Cisco, VMware, AWS
  • Experience using JIRA / Confluence / ServiceNow
  • Working knowledge of ITIL, project management, and Agile frameworks; certification even better
