Position Summary

The AI Engineer (Generative AI & Agents) will design, build, and deploy AI-powered systems with a strong focus on Azure OpenAI, generative modeling, and agentic workflows. This is a junior–mid level, execution-heavy engineering role for someone who thrives on building, experimenting, and bringing concepts to life.

You will work closely with domain and technical leads who provide strategic and conceptual direction, while you focus on translating those ideas into functional prototypes and production-ready capabilities. Your work will support Synterex’s innovation roadmap across medical writing, analytics, clinical operations, and internal automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and deploy GenAI applications using Azure OpenAI (GPT-4/4o, embeddings, fine-tuning, RAG, assistants).
  • Develop agentic workflows using modern frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI, or LangGraph.
  • Implement backend pipelines for prompts, evaluations, LLM orchestration, and model integration.
  • Translate conceptual ideas into functional prototypes and scalable systems.
  • Integrate models with internal tools, APIs, databases, and structured/unstructured datasets.
  • Apply evaluation tools and methodologies for agentic reasoning and LLM reliability.
  • Ensure security, privacy, and responsible AI practices.
  • Collaborate with domain experts and technical leaders across R&D, analytics, and scientific teams.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • 1–5 years of AI/ML engineering experience OR strong project/portfolio work demonstrating capability.
  • Formal degrees are optional if technical ability is demonstrated.

Technical Must-Haves

  • Strong hands-on experience in Python.
  • Practical experience with Azure OpenAI or similar LLM platforms.
  • Experience with at least one agent/GenAI framework: LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI, LangGraph.
  • Ability to independently build prototypes and iterate quickly.
  • Understanding of LLM fundamentals: embeddings, RAG workflows, prompting techniques, model limitations, risks, and evaluation.
  • Experience in backend or system architecture (APIs, pipelines, orchestration).

Mindset & Attributes

  • Curious, self-driven, and experimental.
  • Strong problem-solving orientation with a bias toward execution.
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving, exploratory R&D environments.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with agentic or autonomous task orchestration systems.
  • Exposure to multimodal models, fine-tuning, or retrieval pipelines.
  • Experience in a regulated industry (pharma, healthcare).
  • Familiarity with Azure cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience using evaluation tools like Ragas or similar testing frameworks.

Why Join Synterex?

  • Work at the intersection of GenAI, science, and regulated industries.
  • Direct impact on systems used by scientific and clinical teams.
  • R&D-driven environment with strong executive support.
  • Fully remote role within the United States.
  • Opportunities for experimentation, rapid learning, and meaningful ownership of projects.
