Job Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY
The EMC validation technician conducts EMC testing on a wide variety of automotive products. These components consist of different technologies including analog, digital, optic, color, RF and magnetic applications. This wide range of product mix requires broad based technical skills. The EMC validation technician will also record data and write test reports. Additional duties are performed as needed to ensure completion of projects and contribute to the success of the organization.
JOB FUNCTIONS (ESSENTIAL)
The following duties may be performed at all levels within the progression. This position requires independent problem solving and decision making under the supervision of the EMC Lab Manager. Work may be complex, difficult in character and requires strong technical and broad business knowledge.
  • Conduct testing using appropriate equipment in accordance with specifications and procedures under the supervision of the EMC Validation Engineer or Manager.
  • Create test setups and fixtures to properly operate, monitor, and orient the product while under test.
  • Inspect and analyze test samples. Ensure all test documentation, including data sheets and reports, are accurate and complete.
  • Maintain Lab cleanliness with an emphasis on professionalism and safety.
  • Verify, use, and maintain test equipment. Assist the EMC Engineer in the calibration activities for that test equipment required to maintain accreditation requirements.
  • Provide support in the use and maintenance of various database applications used by the validation EMC group during the performance of daily operations.
  • Provide backup support for other technicians and engineers within the group.
  • Looks for ways to continuously improve existing test methods and lab processes.
  • Provides support for EMC Lab Quality Operating System (QOS).
  • Follows safe work procedures; Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); Uses workplace tools and equipment as instructed; Reports workplace hazards, injuries and illness as soon as possible following event.
  • Complies with the requirements of QOS.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Associates degree in electronics or equivalent work experience with a non-electronics associate degree. Require a minimum of five years of experience in EMC testing. Must be broadly familiar with technologies, products, customers, and programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of DMM, Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators etc.
  • Experience working with OEM EMC specifications (FMC1278, GMW3097, CS.00054, etc.)
  • Experience working with International EMC specifications (ISO & IEC)
  • Experience performing the following tests per the above stated specifications:
  • Radiated Emissions
  • Radiated Immunity
  • Conducted Emissions
  • Conducted Immunity
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas by speaking or in writing so others will understand.

  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office package.
  • CAN, LIN and other automotive networks and related tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Normal amount of sitting and standing, average mobility to move around an office and lab environment, able to conduct normal amount of work on a computer. Must be able to travel to test labs and customer sites as needed.
