This position will be under the Communication Electronics Department within MPD. We are seeking to hire a highly motivated and detail-oriented Electronics Assembly Technician to support the assembly and testing of microwave and RF components, amplifiers and integrated circuits related to our nation's sensor and communications space microwave and millimeter-wave systems. This role will require leadership skills that include organic interactions with engineers and management in the group and across the organization, resulting in efficient and productive operation of the lab. The selected individual will support our broad team of Engineers that work directly with corporate customers to ensure robust and resilient satellite payloads. What You'll Be Doing
- Perform hand solder assembly and rework of printed wiring boards and microwave circuit boards.
- Collaborate with staff in fabricating and testing RF electronics in a research and development laboratory environment.
- Maintain and set up equipment, fabricate hardware components, and support tests.
- Assist in maintaining the laboratory operations and environment, including organization, cleanliness, equipment inventory management, and calibration.
- Acquire laboratory supplies and measurement and test equipment for the labs.
What You Need to be Successful - - Technical Specialist II
Minimum Requirements:
- Four or more years of experience with an associate's degree or equivalent vocational/military training, or five or more years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working in a laboratory or equivalent environment, adhering to safety procedures and maintaining measurement and test equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform hand soldering, circuit fabrication, assembly, and rework
- Proven ability to build wire-harnesses.
- Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- Basic proficiency with mechanical hand tools, e.g. screwdriver and wrench.
- Ability to assist in moving instrumentation and other laboratory assets.
- Basic proficiency with standard business applications such as Microsoft Office.
- Quick troubleshooting skills.
- Capability to work under minimal supervision, self-initiate activities, and meet timelines.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government (U.S. citizenship required).
In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for Technical Specialist III
- Vocational trade school, apprenticeship program, or equivalent 8-10 years of related industry experience.
- Advanced circuit assembly and fabrication skills: packaged component attachment (QFN packages), operation of circuit board fabrication machines.
- Familiarity with microwave measurement and test equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with engineers in their area of technical knowledge, providing insights and suggestions.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and collaborate with internal and external organizations in partnership with management.
- Proven flexibility and adaptability to changing organizational OR lab needs.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Mentorship and supervision of less-experienced st, providing technical leadership and review.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- Familiarity with high-power microwave test equipment.
- Knowledge of die attach or wire bonding.
- Basic knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Matlab.
- Layout skills: understanding of analog, digital, and microwave circuitry best practices; ability to create mechanical drawings of complicated structures.
- Experience with basic machine tools, such as a drill press.
- Current and active security clearance.
