Job Description:
Shield AI is redefining autonomous aviation with cutting-edge AI and GPS/RF-denied navigation technologies. Now, we’re building a next-generation aircraft like no other—one that will push the boundaries of innovation and performance.

We are looking for an Engineer II, Electromechanical Engineering to join our avionics hardware team. In this role, you’ll support the design and integration of avionics systems, working closely with senior engineers to bring designs from concept through production and test. This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer who is eager to learn, take ownership, and grow in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

What you'll do:

  • Support the design of electro-mechanical solutions for avionics packaging, electrical interconnects, thermal management, and aircraft integration
  • Create and update 3D CAD models, drawings, and system layouts for avionics hardware
  • Assist with structural, preliminary thermal, and modal analyses to ensure avionics survivability in operational environments
  • Work closely with electrical engineers to define mechanical constraints for PCBs, harnesses, and avionics assemblies
  • Participate in design reviews, integration activities, testing, and troubleshooting during bring-up and flight readiness
  • Support compliance efforts for environmental, safety, and EMI/EMC standards (e.g., DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461)

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 0 years with a Master’s degree or a PhD without prior experience (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Experience using CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar for part design and drawings
  • Basic understanding of electromechanical systems, avionics hardware, and mechanical integration concepts
  • Strong desire to learn, take feedback, and grow technical depth in a fast-paced development environment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience through university engineering clubs or competition teams (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja SAE, AIAA Design/Build/Fly, rocketry, robotics)
  • Exposure to avionics, UAVs, aircraft, or robotic systems through internships, research, or industry roles
  • Familiarity with PCB layout constraints, harnessing concepts, or avionics packaging
  • Hands-on experience with testing electronics (vibration, thermal, environmental)
  • Experience working with fabrication shops, contract manufacturers, or prototype builds
  • Interest in startups, R&D, or defense innovation environments
  • Active or eligible for U.S. Secret Clearance
