Senior Electrical Engineer | Boston, MA

IMEG is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts, to lead design efforts for moderate to complex building projects and support delivery of larger, high-complexity work with limited senior staff support. In this role, you will provide project management, engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight for electrical systems in buildings while working closely with engineers and consultants to deliver positive client outcomes. You’ll also help manage project budgets, support training and mentoring efforts, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis and design of electrical systems for building projects using engineering software and tools to develop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Perform site assessments and prepare detailed analyses and technical reports
  • Partner with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information clearly and effectively
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication
  • Conduct in-process reviews of electrical system designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence
  • Apply IMEG quality control processes to ensure engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements
  • Train, mentor, and motivate staff
  • Provide technical support to help resolve field issues with limited support from senior staff
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with electrical systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Participate in project interviews and presentations

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Adept in the technical aspects of one’s discipline; advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems
  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards and reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
  • Advanced proficiency of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
  • Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Strong training and mentoring skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays

Boston, MA

State of Massachusetts Salary Range: $101,000 - $134,000

Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
