Role Description:
One of Terawatt’s Core Values is “Electrify the Customer.” Terawatt is seeking an Electrical Engineer to help design and deliver reliable, high-performance EV charging solutions across North America. This role plays a key part in shaping the electrical strategy for Terawatt’s charging stations and ensuring efficient, scalable site design.
 
In this role, you will contribute to strategic electrical system analysis, submittal reviews, preliminary single-line diagram development, and utility coordination. You will collaborate with utility partners and vendors to deliver power efficiency solutions using both established and emerging technologies.
 
You will work closely with the Head of Hardware & Electrical Systems, the SVP of Technology, EVSE Validation Engineers, and a Senior Electrical Engineer, while partnering cross-functionally with software, data, development, construction, energy, and operations teams.
 
This position is central to delivering a high-quality charging experience for fleet customers. The team ensures that Terawatt’s selected charging systems achieve high uptime while providing a seamless customer experience. If you bring experience in EVSEs and high-powered electrical systems, this role offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to transportation electrification and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with the Development, Construction, Energy teams to implement electrical hardware and utility partner requirements closely
  • Work with Technology team to help determine hardware partners for Terawatt’s charging sites
  • Execute strategies for interoperability for our different EVSE partners and the vehicles that will use our charging infrastructure
  • Work with Field Service to help resolve hardware and electrical-related problems for Terawatt's fleet customers
  • Work on existing and upcoming standards engagements and compliance
  • Assist Sr. team members identify new solutions to improve the efficiency of our sites
  • Manage engineering outputs for multiple projects with competing deadlines and resources
  • Report to management regularly on engineering progress and setbacks
  • Research, obtain, and apply critical design information including building and electrical code requirements to site design
  • Be an advocate for the electrification of transport, and the Company’s role in making it happen

Minimum Qualifications

  • Background in electrical engineering, power electronics, or comparable practical experience
  • 4+ years experience in dense electrical infrastructure, such as: DC fast EV charging infrastructure, Clean energy electrification (BESS, solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear, etc.), Data center power distribution, Power grid development, Substations and Microgrids, Solid state power transformation
  • Demonstrated initiative and a collaborative approach to solving complex challenges in an evolving industry with the ability to manage technical deliverables for multiple simultaneous projects, maintaining high quality under aggressive "speed-to-market" timelines
  • Proficiency in developing and reviewing Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs) and Three-Line Diagrams using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar engineering software
  • Deep familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes relevant to EV infrastructure
  • Demonstrated experience managing utility interconnection applications and navigating the technical requirements of utility service providers
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field, or equivalent trade certification (e.g., Journeyman/Master Electrician license) combined with demonstrated technical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in the EV ecosystem, vehicle electrification, EV charging infrastructure, or related fields
  • Hands-on experience in construction oversight, commissioning, or field engineering, specifically troubleshooting hardware to vehicle interoperability
  • Familiarity with understanding of dispatchable on-site power generation, solid state transformers, substation relay and control and other aspects of power distribution systems
  • Understanding of industry standards such as OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) and ISO 15118 (Plug & Charge)
  • Knowledge of construction and electrical safety practices and procedures
  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) status or a Professional Engineer (PE) license
