Via Separations is a Boston-area startup dedicated to enabling process efficiency and intensification for the industrial sector. In 2024, Via delivered its first commercial facility and changed the narrative around market-driven energy technologies that drive value for industrial customers.  At the intersection of engineering, society, and impact, our team is passionate about making a difference and building the technology and organization to do it.  We are a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team backed by leading venture capital firms, and we are looking to add talented, mission-driven people to our cohort.

We are passionate about transformative impact, optimistic about scientific progress, and unafraid of hard problems. We believe that our people are our unfair advantage, and drive our mission forward. We embrace the diversity of our team for creative solutions and believe the best ideas come from the intersection of disciplines and perspectives. We want you to join us!

Role Description
As the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist, you will collaborate closely with our technical, operations, facilities, and lab teams to maintain and improve a top-tier safety program and ethos throughout our expanding enterprise. Your primary responsibilities will encompass formulating and refining safety protocols for Via's headquarters and field sites. This position presents an exceptional opportunity for a candidate poised to structure and initiate an EHS management framework within a burgeoning startup context, while also being eager to actively implement EHS protocols and benchmarks.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor compliance to regulations, policies, standards and procedures; conduct internal audits, including post-assessment summaries and corrective action plans.

  • Facilitate the root cause and corrective action process for EHS reported incidents. Support management in investigations of failures and accidents. Advise management on corrective actions required.

  • Maintain a high level of EHS awareness among personnel through communication, training and promoting involvement in EHS programs.

  • Ensure EHS documentation is updated and available onsite.

  • Collaborate with the safety committee to address safety concerns and implement corrective actions.

  • Oversee the proper storage and handling of hazardous materials within facilities.

  • Maintain records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities for regulatory compliance.

  • Stay current on industry best practices and regulatory changes related to facility safety.

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) experience, focusing on industrial manufacturing environments and chemistry pilot plant environments.

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, a related field, or equivalent work experience is preferred.

  • Proven track record in EHS, with comprehensive knowledge of Federal, State, and local EHS laws, regulations, codes, and best management practices.

  • Possession of certifications such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Graduate Safety Professional (GSP) is desirable, or a willingness to pursue certification with company sponsorship.

  • Must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.

  • A collaborative team player who enjoys troubleshooting and critical thinking.

  • Occasional travel (less than 10% of the time) may be required.

  • Candidates must have U.S. work authorization for this role.

We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation package, including equity options
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance

  • Disability & Life Insurance

  • 401(k)

  • 12 weeks paid Family Leave

  • Flexible PTO

  • Paid time off for Company holidays

  • Onsite gym

Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they can perform every job description task. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may come from a less traditional background. Via may consider an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role!

At Via, we value and prioritize diversity of thought, access, and experiences, and are an equal opportunity employer by choice. We consider all qualified applicants equally for employment. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, protected veteran status, religion, physical or mental disability, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, or any other basis protected by law, ordinance, or regulation.

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
