The Wells Fargo Corporate Economics Group is a team of 10 professionals responsible for developing economic forecast scenarios that provide the basis for important financial planning and risk management activities within Wells Fargo and Company. The team's scenarios are essential to loan loss, net interest income, securities portfolio valuation and other key metrics for financial reporting and risk management, including regulatory stress testing.
Position and Responsibilities
We are seeking a proven, experienced Economist to lead this dynamic team. As the Chief Economist for the Wells Fargo Corporate Economics Group, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of economists. This entails supervision of their research, model development, forecasting, and presentation of economic and financial conditions.
The Chief Economist will set the research agenda, adjudicate competing priorities, advise management at the most senior levels of the Corporation, and collaborate with financial professionals in risk management and financial planning functions. This individual should demonstrate thought leadership, especially at the nexus of banking and economic conditions, and enjoy a strong reputation in the community of professional forecasters.
The position is very team-oriented and will require extensive interaction with other economists and banking professionals engaged in analysis, forecasting and risk management purposes. Though directly reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, the successful candidate will operate with complete independence.

Responsibilities include the following:
- Provide vision and set direction for the Economics function
- Provide thought leadership on timely economic and financial issues of importance to the organization
- Consult with management and risk personnel on economic issues and modeling techniques for companywide planning and risk management
- Perform highly complex economic research to determine long-term financial plans and policies
- Consult with management on economic conditions and trends and provide guidance on strategy development
- Collaborate with leadership in development of enterprise governance
- Act as the enterprise spokesperson as it relates to economic conditions and prospects
- Interact with regulators specific to enterprise trends and potential impact on the organization
- Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Economics
- Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy
- 8+ years of Economics experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 4+ years of Management experience
- A Master's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline
- PhD is preferred
- Ability to present technical concepts to senior leaders
- Knowledge and understanding of analytical methods used in: statistical analysis, modeling, and forecasting
- Proficiency with statistical software (i.e. Eviews, RATS, R, Excel, etc.)
