Director Technology Architecture & Engineering Accelerator, US Retail Market
About the role: Liberty Mutual Technology's US Retail Market Architecture team is hiring a Director of Technology Architecture & Engineering Accelerator. This senior, strategic and hands-on leadership role will define and deliver the technical vision, architectures, and enablement that modernize and optimize our technology ecosystem. You will lead a team of technical architects and engineering manager to develop architecture strategies, platform patterns, and starter components that accelerate delivery across the market while aligning to enterprise architecture strategies, standards, and roadmaps.
**This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days in the office a week in one of our five tech hub locations (Plano, TX, Boston, MA, Portsmouth, NH, Indianapolis, IN and Columbus, OH). **

- Translate long-term architecture vision into measurable, actionable outcomes and prioritize an emerging architecture backlog in partnership with product and engineering leadership.
- Drive cloud and application modernization (including API first design), platform consolidation, and strategic replacement of legacy mainframe applications; lead technology selection, POCs, and migration planning.
- Own technical stewardship: manage technical debt and architecture integrity to ensure scalability, resilience and secure.
- Delivery of production ready software accelerators that embody the architectural North Star, integration starters, and modernization migration blueprints.
- Establish and maintain the US Retail Market technology taxonomy including fitness functions and frameworks to measure adherence to architectural North Star
- Collaborate with product teams, senior architects/engineers, vendors and cross functional stakeholders to align technology decisions with business outcomes and enterprise standards.
- Design and promote engineering best practices, developer experience improvements, automation and observability to increase velocity and operational resilience.
- Communicate technical tradeoffs, risks and recommendations to diverse audiences technical and nontechnical to achieve alignment and informed decision making.
- Oversee talent development, performance management, and succession planning across the team, including hiring, coaching, and mentoring other people leaders and senior technical architects and engineers
- Define and track KPIs to measure accelerator effectiveness and adoption
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate technical tradeoffs into clear business impacts.
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot or other core programming languages / frameworks
- Remain technically engaged and provide technical mentorship.
- Experience leading other people leaders
Qualifications
- Bachelor`s or Master`s degree in technical discipline; Master`s preferred
- Generally, a minimum of 10 years of architecture experience in applications development in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment
- Exposure to layered solutions and designs, diverse technical configurations, multiple technologies and processing environments
- Thorough knowledge of all components of technical architecture
- Thorough knowledge of business re-engineering principles and processes
- Thorough knowledge of financial models and budgeting
- Thorough understanding of business operations, objectives and strategies including but not limited to, insurance industry, financial services, global business, technology trends, as well as security minded
- Strong understanding of network architecture
- Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
