Job Summary:

The Director, Targeted Acquisition will own and scale Mercer Advisors' targeted acquisition ecosystem, including the Pinpoint program, FINNY, and other AI-powered prospecting, outreach, and engagement tools that help advisors identify, prioritize, and convert high-value prospects.

This is a product-centric, player-coach role for someone who enjoys both strategy and execution. You'll define the roadmap, operating model, campaign architecture, and growth strategy for these programs while personally leading key launches, solving complex problems, and building scalable systems that drive measurable business results. You'll manage a small contractor team responsible for campaign execution and QA, but success will come from your ability to roll up your sleeves, move quickly, and turn ideas into action.

A critical thread throughout this role is driving effective adoption of AI-powered tools and agent-based workflows to improve speed, personalization, and scale. The ideal candidate is already using AI to solve business problems, improve workflows, generate insights, and accelerate execution. They are equally comfortable leading executive-level discussions, building cross-functional alignment, and working through the details required to launch and optimize programs.

Essential Job Functions for this role include:

Targeted Acquisition Product Ownership & Scale

  • Own the end-to-end strategy, operating model, roadmap, and performance of Mercer Advisors' targeted acquisition ecosystem, including Pinpoint, FINNY, and related prospecting and engagement tools.
  • Partner closely with technology, vendors, and business stakeholders to shape product roadmaps, prioritize enhancements, and improve adoption.
  • Personally lead high-priority launches, pilots, and growth initiatives that establish best practices and set the quality bar for the organization.
  • Evolve programs from pilot-stage initiatives into scalable, repeatable capabilities that can be leveraged across markets, specialties, and advisor teams.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI-powered automation, agents, and assisted workflows to increase efficiency and effectiveness while maintaining appropriate human oversight.

Audience Identification & Segmentation

  • Own identification and prioritization of high-value target audiences using data, market insights, sales input, and AI-assisted signals.
  • Translate growth priorities into audience segments based on profession, life stage, geography, intent signals, affinity, and other factors.
  • Architect testable campaigns with clear objectives, success metrics, and learning agendas.
  • Make thoughtful decisions with imperfect information, balancing rigor, speed, and commercial impact.
  • Continuously refine targeting strategies based on performance data, market changes, and field feedback.

Messaging Strategy & Localization

  • Partner with the Director of Specialty Marketing on campaign strategy, content development, and go-to-market planning.
  • Personally develop and refine outreach messaging for flagship campaigns across email, LinkedIn, landing pages, and other channels.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate message variation, personalization, testing, and optimization while maintaining brand standards and quality.
  • Develop templates, playbooks, and best practices that can scale across markets and specialties.

Player-Coach Enablement

  • Serve as a hands-on partner to local market teams, specialty teams, and sales leaders on targeted acquisition strategy and execution.
  • Partner directly with stakeholders to shape audiences, messaging, campaign structure, and activation plans.
  • Lead working sessions that help teams translate strategy into action and improve execution quality across the organization.
  • Build scalable processes, documentation, and enablement programs that increase organizational capability over time.

Contractor Team Management

  • Manage contractors responsible for campaign builds and execution.
  • Define workflows, operating procedures, and quality standards that support scale and consistency.
  • Review and QA output for accuracy, effectiveness, and adherence to best practices.
  • Balance hands-on involvement with delegation as programs mature and scale.

1:1 Sales Enablement & Tooling

  • Own marketing's strategy and governance for digital prospecting and acquisition tools used by client development teams.
  • Define use cases, adoption strategies, best practices, and success metrics for each tool.
  • Partner with Client Development, Revenue Operations, and Marketing teams to ensure tools are embedded into real-world workflows and deliver measurable value.
  • Identify opportunities to expand capabilities and improve advisor adoption.

Measurement & Optimization

  • Define and track metrics from outreach through meeting conversion, pipeline generation, and downstream client impact.
  • Translate performance data into actionable recommendations for leadership and business partners.
  • Use insights to continuously improve audience strategy, messaging, operating models, and program investments.
  • Establish testing frameworks and learning agendas that drive ongoing performance improvements.
Who You Are:
  • You are highly analytical, intellectually curious, and energized by solving difficult business problems.
  • You are a builder. You enjoy creating new programs, improving systems, and turning ideas into real business outcomes.
  • You do not wait for perfect direction or complete information. You identify opportunities, develop solutions, and move work forward.
  • You combine structured thinking with pragmatic execution and know how to balance strategy with action.
  • You are resourceful, adaptable, and comfortable navigating ambiguity.
  • You are effective at building alignment, influencing stakeholders, and driving cross-functional initiatives forward.
  • You take ownership, follow through, and consistently deliver results.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 5-8 years of experience in management consulting, growth strategy, growth marketing, commercialization, product management, business operations, acquisition marketing, or related fields.
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience leading complex cross-functional projects in consulting, strategy, growth, or operating roles.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and scaling programs, products, processes, or growth initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Proven ability to drive measurable business outcomes and move initiatives from idea to implementation.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution. Equally comfortable developing recommendations and doing the work required to bring them to life.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to identifying opportunities, prioritizing investments, and overcoming obstacles.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders and driving adoption without direct authority.
  • Deep experience with 1:1, account-based, or highly targeted digital marketing programs. Outbound or sales-adjacent experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated comfort experimenting with and adopting AI-powered tools, automation, or agent-based workflows, along with strong judgment regarding where AI adds value versus where human oversight is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-moving environment with significant ownership and accountability.

  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
