Director, Strategic Contracts

The Role

The role of Director, Strategic Contracts, provides industry specific expertise and strategic and tactical direction in the development, negotiation, management, and administration of complex and highly visible supplier contract negotiations for Fidelity's Procurement organization. This role will be responsible for helping lead collaboration and partnership with business unit partners, legal, risk, compliance, and other operational subject matter experts across the organization to minimize risk and optimize value to Fidelity. The purpose of your role is to become a trusted advisor to your business partners, counsel Fidelity leaders on contract and risk decisions, and fulfill business partner needs quickly, effectively, and in the best interest of the firm.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree; JD strongly preferred.
  • 10 years of equivalent experience of advanced legal studies or purchasing, including complex contract negotiations
  • Proactive management and development of key business partner relationships
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Solid understanding of complex contracting models and the ability to negotiate and provide guidance across both standard and non-standard contracts
  • Ability to influence business stakeholders and senior executives through fact-based decision support
  • Experience working with leaders at all levels, from project managers to the C-Suite
  • Creative, flexible, and able to handle ambiguity
  • Exhibits strong executive presence and confident working with all organizational levels
  • Strong relationship management capabilities that will get you a seat at the leadership table of our key business stakeholders (ex. Legal, Insurance, Compliance, Vendor Management Oversight)
  • Comfortable making decisions and taking smart risks
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven track record of effective collaboration and teamwork
  • Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of contract terms and conditions
  • Ability to assess risk and translate business requirements to viable business solutions
  • Commitment to drive quality and process improvements
  • Provides business leaders with contract analysis and a point-of-view for decision support
  • Understands business objectives of the applicable Fidelity business team and integrates those requirements into the appropriate contracting vehicle
  • Providing the Procurement organization with recommendations, modifications, and process improvement opportunities
  • Leverage experience and knowledge to provide thought leadership with business partners
  • Responds to shifting priorities while maintaining progress of regularly scheduled work
