Director, Software Engineering: Java

What You'll Do:

Manage a team of highly skilled software engineers in design and development of the new generation highly scalable resilient cloud-based Clearing applications. Mentor and collaborate with developers, architects, and product owners to successfully deliver business and operational functionality for internal and external users. This candidate must be able to solve problems creatively, communicate effectively, and proactively engage in technical decision making to achieve these objectives. A team player and work well with business, technical and non-technical professionals in an agile environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily.

You’ll be working alongside experts that are building OCC’s next generation platform for securities lending system, and paving the future of digital transformation in the capital markets industry

• Lead a team of developers to meet performance expectations and deadlines while collaborating with business and technology stakeholders

• Continuously thinking about the next steps while improving yourself and others around you

• Developing solutions to complex technical challenges while coding, testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and documenting the systems you develop

• Optimizing application performance through analysis, code refactoring, and system tuning

• Recommending technologies and tools that improve the efficiency and quality of OCC’s systems and development processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Build and manage a team of skilled software developers

• Collaborated with other tech leads across OCC

• Work with leadership to help deliver on promises

• [Required] 10 years of software development experience

• [Required] 7+ years of experience in Java based applications

• [Required] 7+ years of experience team building, management, and mentoring with at least 4+ years with Manager or higher roles

• [Required] 4+ years of experience with cloud and DevOps (AWS, EKS, Kubernetes, Docker, Rancher, Harness)

• [Required] 4+ years of experience with CICD (Jenkins, JIRA, GIT)

• [Required] Experience with Event processing model and Object-Oriented programing

• [Required] Experience with Relational and non-relational DBs

• Experience in JavaScript application development

• Experience with Logging / monitoring frameworks and tools (ELK / Splunk)

• Understanding of IAM and secure coding practices (OWASP, Sysdig, Black Duck, Veracode)

• ‘Get stuff done’ and flexible mindset for greater good of the organization

• Intellectually curious and eager to learn

Technical Skills:

• [Required] Experience in building high speed distributed solutions

• [Required] Java 8+ software development experience

• [Required] Web/mobile application development experience

• [Required] Experience working with Unix/Linux environments, event-driven systems, transaction processing systems, distributed and parallel systems, large software system development, security software development, public-cloud platforms.

• Understanding of functional programming, object-oriented design, industry best practices, software patterns, and architecture principles

• Understanding of the following types of testing: unit, integration, system, functional, non-functional, regression, performance, security, and acceptance

• Understanding of trouble shooting performance issues and multi-threaded development

• Experience with support and how to handle critical issues for prod like environments

Education and/or Experience:

• BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field required.

• Masters preferred.

Certificates or Licenses:

• OCP Java SE 8 Programmer Certification is a plus

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate Level is a plus

Compensation

• The salary range listed for any given position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at OCC, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as skills, experience and/or education.
• In addition, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
• We typically do not hire at the maximum of the range in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a substantial benefits package as noted on www.theocc.com/careers
• All employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Discretionary bonuses are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, company and individual performance and are not guaranteed.
