R1 is the leading provider of technology-driven solutions that transform the patient experience and financial performance of hospitals, health systems and medical groups. We are the one company that combines the deep expertise of a global workforce of revenue cycle professionals with the industry’s most advanced technology platform, encompassing sophisticated analytics, AI, intelligent automation, and workflow orchestration.

As our Director of Revenue Cycle Operations, you will be responsible for managing modular revenue cycle work across a diverse client portfolio. Unlike traditional end‑to‑end revenue cycle roles, this position owns a defined segment of accounts receivable (AR) such as a payer group, denial category, billing workflow, or collections queue—while partnering closely with adjacent operational teams to support overall client financial performance. Every day you will lead large teams within a clearly defined scope, remain highly visible to clients, and execute with precision in a fast‑moving, variable inventory environment. The Director serves as the primary operational representative for their assigned scope and is expected to manage routine client interactions independently.

To thrive in this role, you are a people leader who excels within a defined lane, understands how their work connects to broader revenue cycle outcomes, and thrives in a multi‑client, modular delivery model.

Here’s what you will experience working as a Director of Revenue Cycle Operations:

  • Lead and manage up to 100 FTEs delivering modular RCM services across both professional billing (PB) and hospital/facility billing (HB) environments

  • Own performance, quality, and outcomes for an assigned portion of AR, ensuring alignment with client goals and internal SLAs

  • Make real‑time staffing and capacity decisions in response to fluctuating inventory, payer mix, and workflow demands

  • Maintain strong client‑facing presence, representing the organization in operational discussions related to assigned scope without reliance on VP escalation

  • Partner cross‑functionally with peer Directors and operational leaders to ensure seamless coordination across revenue cycle workflows

  • Monitor productivity, quality, compliance, and financial performance using operational data and work queue reporting

  • Maintain compliance with payer, regulatory, and client‑specific requirements across all managed workflows

  • Lead, coach, and develop front‑line leaders and managers in a fully remote, distributed environment

  • Operate with a hands‑on leadership approach, engaging directly with data, workflows, and queues rather than managing solely through reports

Required Skills:

  • 7–10 years of progressive revenue cycle management experience

  • 3–5+ years of direct people leadership experience managing teams of 50–100 FTEs

  • Demonstrated experience operating within modular or segmented RCM models, with ownership of a defined AR function rather than full end‑to‑end revenue cycle

  • Proven ability to lead across both professional and hospital billing environments

  • Strong client‑facing experience with the ability to manage routine operational conversations independently

  • Experience making staffing and capacity decisions in high‑volume, variable inventory environments

  • Comfort leading fully remote teams with strong accountability and communication practices

  • Analytical, operational mindset with the ability to translate data into action

For this US-based position, the base pay range is $110,000.00 - $147,768.37 per year . Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This job is eligible to participate in our annual bonus plan at a target of 20.00%
