About Rhino

Rhino Federated Computing Rhino solves one of the biggest challenges in AI: seamlessly connecting siloed data through federated computing. The Rhino Federated Computing Platform (Rhino FCP) serves as the ‘data collaboration tech stack’, extending from providing computing resources to data preparation & discoverability, to model development & monitoring - all in a secure, privacy preserving environment. To do this, Rhino FCP offers flexible architecture (multi-cloud and on-prem hardware), end-to-end data management workflows (multimodal data, schema definition, harmonization, and visualization), privacy enhancing technologies (e.g., differential privacy), and allows for the secure deployment of custom code & 3rd party applications via persistent data pipelines. Rhino is trusted by >60 leading organizations worldwide - including 14 of 20 of Newsweek’s ‘Best Smart Hospitals’ and top 20 global biopharma companies - and is leveraging this foundation for financial services, ecommerce, and beyond.
The company is headquartered in Boston, with an R&D center in Tel Aviv.

About the Role

Rhino Federated Computing is hiring a Director of Research Programs to drive the adoption of our platform across multi-institution collaborations, grant-funded initiatives, and strategic scientific programs.

This is an individual contributor (IC) role with room for growth, focused on identifying and shaping high-impact opportunities where Federated Computing can become core infrastructure  particularly in research environments that require secure, privacy-preserving data collaboration. You will lead efforts to originate new revenue, expand institutional footprint, and position Rhino as the default platform for cross-organizational AI/ML development.

You'll work closely with academic medical centers, research consortia, public-sector agencies, and global scientific collaboratives. Your success will be measured by pipeline and revenue generated from multi-party initiatives, as well as network expansion, program-level influence, and visibility in publications or reference architectures.

Responsibilities
  • Originate and shape new revenue opportunities by embedding Rhino in grant-funded research programs, multi-institutional data collaboratives, and emerging public-private initiatives.
  • Identify and prioritize strategic programs and consortia where federated computing is critical infrastructure (e.g., data sharing, privacy-preserving model development, AI auditability).
  • Develop deep external relationships with principal investigators (PIs), program managers, institutional research leaders, and sponsoring organizations.
  • Drive pipeline growth by identifying and engaging design partner projects and surfacing opportunities where Rhino can be written into grant applications, RFAs, and proposal budgets.
  • Act as a commercial partner in proposal development, providing value propositions, technical positioning, and deployment models.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, product, and partnerships to ensure alignment on roadmap, messaging, and deal strategy.
  • Track and report on opportunity pipeline, including influenced revenue, ecosystem expansion, and co-development milestones.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years experience in research collaborations, strategic BD, academic alliances, or platform commercialization — ideally in AI/ML, data infrastructure, or scientific computing.
  • An advanced degree (e.g., PhD, MD, MPH, or MS in a relevant scientific, engineering, or public health field) is valued, but not required, especially if paired with experience driving cross-institutional research initiatives or platform adoption.
  • Proven ability to work across scientific and commercial stakeholders, translating technical capabilities into grant-winning proposals and adoption strategies.
  • Experience engaging with or working inside academic medical centers, research hospitals, federal agencies (e.g., NIH), or global consortia.
  • Strong understanding of how grant funding works — including identifying opportunities, supporting proposal writing, and influencing RFPs/RFAs.
  • Commercial mindset with experience generating pipeline, surfacing opportunities, and influencing buying behavior (even if not quota-carrying).
  • Excellent relationship builder, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by influencing large, complex, multi-party initiatives.
  • Boston preferred, ability to work EST hours required

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
