Summary

QuEra Computing is the leader in commercializing quantum computers using neutral atoms, which is widely recognized as a highly promising quantum modality. Based in Boston and built on pioneering research from nearby Harvard University and MIT, we are developing large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers to tackle classically intractable problems. At QuEra Computing, we are building the next generation of scalable quantum computers based on neutral atoms. We work at the forefront of quantum technology, collaborating with leading researchers and innovators worldwide. We are passionate about both the science we advance and the inclusive, collaborative culture we cultivate.

We are seeking an established scientific and industry leader to serve as Director of Quantum Solutions. In this role, you will lead strategic collaborations with customers and partners worldwide to develop quantum solutions that address concrete, high‑value problems. You’ll also design and scale community programs—courses, tutorials, blogs, challenge tracks, and more—that help users get productive fast on QuEra’s neutral‑atom quantum computers.

You’ll help turn cutting-edge quantum technology into customer outcomes across both on‑premises deployments and cloud access. Working closely with quantum error‑correction (QEC) researchers, software engineers, quantum application scientists, and experimentalists, you’ll maximize the practical utility of QuEra’s systems.

Why this role exists

You will own the bridge between QuEra’s neutral‑atom hardware and real customer outcomes—turn cutting‑edge science into quantum solutions that matter.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the team: Hire, mentor, and develop a high‑performing, global Quantum Solutions team across the US, Japan, and Europe. Provide technical leadership, set clear goals, and drive career growth.
  • Deliver customer success: Oversee scoping, execution, and delivery of collaborative projects with customers and partners, including compelling, high-impact demonstrations on QuEra’s state-of-the-art quantum computers.
  • Drive user enablement: Create and run community programs (e.g., hackathons, workshops, forums) and publish high-quality documentation, tutorials, and example repositories to lower adoption barriers and reduce time‑to‑first‑experiment.
  • Be the voice of the customer: Translate user needs into product and research insights. Shape roadmap priorities and developer experience.
  • Turn customer needs into quantum solutions: Collaborate with the applications team to identify and develop practically useful quantum applications on QuEra’s neutral-atom quantum computers, grounded in real customer use cases.
  • Translate R&D into learning: Align company goals, customer needs, and structured learning paths for users (courses, notebooks, blogs, challenge tracks) so that QuEra’s latest research and methodologies are accessible and actionable. Oversee timely and high-quality delivery of effective teaching contents on QuEra’s systems.
  • Shape go-to-market: Partner with leadership and commercial teams on engagement strategy, strategic alliances, and long-term partnerships.
  • Measure what matters: Define and track adoption and success metrics (e.g., active users and time-to-first-success) and use them to iterate programs, content, and engagement strategies.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Quantum Computing, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in quantum computing, with substantial industry or applied research experience.
  • Proven track record leading technical teams and orchestrating large, cross-functional collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong background in quantum algorithms and application-level benchmarking for quantum hardware (e.g., neutral atom, trapped-ion, superconducting, or photonic platforms).
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills; comfortable engaging with both executives and deep technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognized leadership in quantum computing R&D, evidenced by a strong publication and/or open-source track record.
  • Depth in quantum algorithms and applications, quantum error correction, and quantum software and tooling.
  • Experience mapping algorithms and QEC protocols to hardware implementations and collaborating closely with experimental teams.
  • Familiarity with production-grade software practices and lifecycle management.
  • Experience in turning R&D results into concrete technical requirements for product development.
  • Demonstrated passion for education, outreach, and community building (talks, blog posts, tutorials, workshops, or course design).
  • Proven experience leading distributed, global teams across time zones and cultures.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
