Job Summary:

This role will lead a centralized Quality organization responsible for supplier quality, in-house system build quality, contract manufacturer quality, and system-level ship readiness across Berkshire Grey’s full product portfolio.  This role ensures consistent quality standards, governance, and ship authorization regardless of whether systems are assembled internally or by contract manufacturing partners.

This leader will establish quality standards, governance, and metrics across suppliers, manufacturing, system integration, and software release processes. They will also partner closely with Software & Hardware Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Field Operations to prevent defects, reduce escapes, and drive a culture of quality by design rather than inspection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Quality
    • Own quality performance of component suppliers across all products.
    • Define supplier quality requirements, inspection criteria, acceptance criteria, and audit standards aligned with Berkshire Grey system requirements.
    • Establish and manage supplier qualification, audits, performance scorecards, and corrective action processes (SCARs).
    • Partner with Supply Chain and Engineering to manage supplier risk, change control, and quality impact assessments.
    • Drive continuous improvement with key suppliers to reduce defects, variability, and incoming quality issues.
  • In-House Build Quality Manager / Lead
    • Own quality for the product assembled internally at Berkshire Grey
    • Define and enforces build standards, work instructions, inspection plans, and quality gates
    • Lead Quality Engineers and Inspectors supporting in-house assembly and integration
    • Drive yield improvement, defect reduction, and root cause corrective actions
  • Contract Manufacturer (CM) Quality
    • Own quality performance of contract manufacturers building BG products
    • Define CM quality agreements, audit cadence, and acceptance criteria
    • Lead CM Quality Engineers supporting builds and FAT at partner sites
    • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to resolve CM build issues, rework, and escapes
  • Software & Hardware Quality Integration
    • Ensure quality coverage across both hardware and software, including embedded software, controls, perception, and system-level functionality.
    • Partner with Software and Systems Engineering to align software release readiness with hardware build and system integration timelines.
    • Define quality criteria for software readiness, regression testing, and system-level validation prior to shipment.
    • Ensure hardware-software integration issues are identified early and resolved before shipment.
  • Ship Readiness & Customer Quality
    • Own the definition of “ship-ready” quality standards and final system acceptance criteria.
    • Ensure systems ship in a validated, documented, and customer-ready state with minimal post-deployment quality issues.
    • Partner with Field Operations and Customer Support to track field quality, warranty issues, and customer feedback.
    • Drive closed-loop feedback from field performance into design, supplier, and manufacturing improvements.
  • Quality Systems, Metrics & Leadership
    • Establish and maintain a scalable Quality Management System (QMS) appropriate for a complex robotics and automation company.
    • Define and track quality KPIs (e.g., supplier defects, build yield, escapes, field reliability, cost of poor quality).
    • Provide regular quality reviews and reporting to executive leadership.
    • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Quality organization across supplier, manufacturing, and system quality functions.
    • Champion a culture of accountability, prevention, and continuous improvement across Berkshire Grey.

You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or related technical field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in quality leadership roles, preferably in robotics, automation, industrial equipment, or complex electromechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience owning supplier quality and manufacturing/system build quality.
  • Strong understanding of hardware-software integrated systems and system-level validation.
  • Proven track record of reducing defects, improving yield, and preventing customer escapes.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Software teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and executive-level presentation skills.

We Value:

  • Experience in warehouse automation, robotics, or large-scale industrial systems.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality management frameworks.
  • Experience scaling quality processes in a growing or fast-paced organization.
  • Background in reliability engineering, field quality, or lifecycle quality management.
