We’re not just building better tech. We’re rewriting how data moves and what the world can do with it. With Confluent, data doesn’t sit still. Our platform puts information in motion, streaming in near real-time so companies can react faster, build smarter, and deliver experiences as dynamic as the world around them.

It takes a certain kind of person to join this team. Those who ask hard questions, give honest feedback, and show up for each other. No egos, no solo acts. Just smart, curious humans pushing toward something bigger, together.

One Confluent. One Team. One Data Streaming Platform.

About the Role:

This pivotal role sits at the center of Confluent’s most ambitious narratives. As Director of Product Marketing for DSP & Events, you will shape the core product narrative for our Data Streaming Platform and bring it to life in our most critical external moments—from key product launches, innovation keynotes at flagship events, external marketing activities, field events, and more. You’ll also work closely with our specialist field leaders to establish product market fit for new products as they go to market.

You will lead a team of PMMs focused on DSP (including Flink, Tableflow, Connect, and Governance) and own the platform-level narrative that unites these innovations into a compelling vision. Your work will directly influence how customers, analysts, and the broader market perceive Confluent’s leadership in streaming.

In this role, you’ll partner closely with our Product Leaders, PMM, and Technical Marketing teams to translate roadmap innovations into high-impact narratives, GTM strategies, and event moments. You’ll also collaborate with Analyst Relations to shape perception in Magic Quadrants, Waves, and industry reports, ensuring our platform vision is recognized and reinforced.

This is a highly visible, strategic leadership role requiring a unique blend of storytelling, technical depth, and market insight. You will inspire both internal and external audiences, driving clarity of vision for customers, partners, analysts, and our field.

What You Will Do:
  • Build the Core Product narrative: Develop and maintain the platform story that ties together Core Kafka, Flink, Tableflow, Connect, and Governance into a unified DSP vision.

  • Translate roadmap into launches and GTM: Build launch strategies and GTM plans for DSP innovations, ensuring product market fit, crisp positioning and broad market impact.

  • Drive marquee events: Shape and deliver the product marketing strategy for tier-1 events (e.g., Current), working with executives to create inspiring innovation keynotes.

  • Lead and develop a team: Manage and grow a small but high-performing DSP PMM team, coaching them to deliver high-quality messaging, content, and execution.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Align with Product, Technical Marketing, Field, and Sales teams to ensure consistency of DSP messaging across all channels.

  • Monitor the market: Stay ahead of competitive moves, customer needs, and industry shifts to keep our DSP positioning sharp and differentiated.

What You Will Bring:
  • 10+ years in Product Marketing (enterprise, developer, data, or infrastructure products strongly preferred).

  • 3+ years leading PMM teams with a proven ability to coach, develop, and scale high-performing talent.

  • Strong track record in platform-level positioning and narrative development, not just feature-level marketing.

  • Deep experience with tier-1 event storytelling and working directly with executives on keynote content.

  • Strong executive presence and communication skills; ability to create content and narratives for customers, analysts, and C-level audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and influence at all levels of the organization.

What Gives You an Edge:
  • Background in streaming, data infrastructure, or AI/ML

  • Track record of building compelling product launches

  • Experience building compelling content for keynotes, events

  • On-stage or public speaking experience at industry events.

  • Ability to connect highly technical concepts with business outcomes in a clear, engaging way.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
