Role and Responsibilities

As the Director of Product Management for the Yahoo News App, you will define and execute the strategic product vision that transforms Yahoo News into the most trusted, personalized, and engaging mobile news experience on the internet. This role requires exceptional product strategy instincts, a deep understanding of user behavior in mobile media consumption, and a proven track record building consumer products powered by AI and personalization.

You will lead a cross-functional team to scale Yahoo’s mobile news experience through intelligent personalized features that curate multi-media content for our users. You’ll also work closely with Yahoo’s platform, AI, and content teams to shape how the News App becomes a showcase of Yahoo’s ecosystem and editorial leadership.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, visionary product leader with deep experience in mobile product development, AI-powered experiences, exponential consumer app growth, and mobile user retention. You will be expected to scale impact, ship quickly, validate rigorously, and maintain high trust with engineering, editorial, and design partners.

Specifically, you will:

  • Own and drive the Yahoo News App product strategy, roadmap, and KPIs aligned with Yahoo’s company mission and engagement-focused business goals.

  • Lead ideation, execution, and optimization of breakthrough features that acquire and retain users inside the app.

  • Grow and retain DAU by optimizing onboarding, content discovery and outreach mechanics.

  • Partner with internal teams to ensure News App innovation builds on internal capabilities while influencing foundational investments.

  • Advocate for the user while prioritizing features that drive key business metrics.

  • Set a culture of experimentation and fast iteration through rigorous use of A/B testing, retention analysis, and behavioral insights.

  • Mentor and manage PMs toward career growth and excellence in their roles.

  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Editorial, Design, Data, and Marketing teams to ship impactful, scalable features.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years focused on mobile consumer apps.

  • Proven success leading end-to-end mobile product strategies that grew DAUs, retention, and monetization.

  • Experience building or leading consumer products powered by AI or machine learning — ideally in personalization, summarization, or content creation and recommendation systems.

  • Strong product judgment, with fluency in data analysis, A/B testing, and user research methodologies.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across editorial, design, engineering, and business stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with media ecosystems and the challenges/opportunities in the current news landscape.

  • Deep understanding of user-centered design, product mechanics, and app lifecycle engagement strategies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience at a consumer news, media, or content-driven company (e.g. streaming, social, audio, or publishing).

  • Track record of building inclusive, high-performing product teams in fast-paced environments.
