The Role

We’re hiring a Director of Design to lead the UX vision for our Clinical Group. This team is building AI-powered workflows that transform how behavioral health clinicians handle progress notes, care planning, and administrative load. You'll lead a team of designers across 6 squads, guiding how we infuse AI into every step of the care delivery journey.

This is a senior leadership role for a systems thinker who can toggle between strategy and execution. You’ll shape the long-term Clinical Assistant vision, guide fast-paced MVP delivery, and ensure quality, trust, and usability across one of the most sensitive areas of our product.

Responsibilities
  • Define and scale the Clinical design team: structure, rituals, staffing, and standards
  • Co-lead the Clinical Assistant strategy with Product and Engineering
  • Ensure user trust, clarity, and adoption across AI-powered clinical experiences
  • Balance exploration and execution across documentation, group care, and care planning
  • Work closely with the AI acceleration team to connect prototyping with real-world workflows
  • Champion human-centered design within an AI-powered product evolution
  • Lead product storytelling efforts that shape cross-company understanding and support
  • Mentor designers through ambiguity, rapid learning cycles, and system-level design decisions
  • Advocate for accessibility, transparency, and reliability in AI-assisted care
  • Represent the design org in executive planning and XFN decision forums

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years in product design, with 5+ leading teams and strategy in healthcare or regulated spaces
  • Track record designing AI-powered tools with strong UX patterns and systems thinking
  • Experience designing AI-powered tools, including hands-on work with prompt engineering, LLMs, or agentic workflows. Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional partners on early-stage prototyping and system behavior tuning
  • Experience with natural language interfaces, agentic workflows, or clinician-facing applications
  • Strong point of view on quality, with the ability to mentor and influence at the craft level
  • Comfortable navigating HIPAA, clinical workflows, and trust requirements in health tech
  • Strategic partner to Product and Engineering, able to spar without ego and push for clarity
  • Experience collaborating with AI or infrastructure teams on early-stage experiments
  • Skilled communicator, strong presence in executive forums and cross-functional planning

Base Compensation Range

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
