Job Purpose and Impact
The Director, Cloud Platform Operations will build and lead Cargill's Cloud Infrastructure team. The team will enhance reliability and the operational sustainability of Cargill's applications and cloud infrastructure through modern engineering and automation practices. As a new capability at Cargill this role will help define the strategy, build the team, and mature the Operations and Platform SRE capability in close partnership with our Cloud Platform, Data Platform and Application CoE.
Key Accountabilities
  • Oversees the planning, implementation and delivery of software projects, including resource allocation, to ensure they are completed on time and within scope.
  • Applies expertise in software development and deployment automation as well as continuous integration or continuous delivery pipeline and twelve factor development methodology to guide and support the platform engineering team.
  • Oversees to ensure the quality and performance of software applications through rigorous testing, code reviews, and adherence to best in class industry standards.
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives and guides the implementation of approved standards to improve software development and deployment processes and operational excellence, applying test driven development as needed.
  • Cultivates collaboration with product managers, designers and other cross functional teams to gather requirements, set priorities and deliver resolutions to meet business objectives.
  • Oversees and guides the creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for software applications, deployment processes and system configurations.
  • Oversees technical support and troubleshooting for deployed applications for minimal downtime and fast resolution of issues.
  • Leads the identification and engagement with key internal and external stakeholders, understanding their needs and enabling effective communication to assure project alignment and success.
  • Manages team members to achieve the organization's goals, by ensuring productivity, communicating performance expectations, creating goal alignment, giving and seeking feedback, providing coaching, measuring progress and holding people accountable, supporting employee development, recognizing achievement and lessons learned, and developing enabling conditions for talent to thrive in an inclusive team culture.

Qualifications
    • Minimum requirement of 6 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 10 years or more of relevant experience.
    • 6+ years experience leading a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps, and infrastructure/platform engineering team
    • Experience with AWS cloud technologies, including EC2, security groups, Auto Scaling Groups (ASG), S3, and IAM.

    Preferred
    • Proven track record of driving reliability strategy, incident management, and cross-functional collaboration
    • Develop Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) aligned with business goals.
    • Design and deploy monitoring, alerting, and incident management systems
    • Develop and implement SRE policies, standards, and best practices for enterprise-wide systems
    • Define standards for building reliable applications that are highly available and resilient
    • Drive adoption of DevSecOps culture, fostering collaboration between development and operations teams
    • Lead initiatives to improve CI/CD pipelines and automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment
