Director, Performance Analytics – Auto Liability Claims

Overview

The ABI and GL Claims Performance Analytics group is seeking a Director to lead claim insights and strategic analytics, with a primary focus on Auto Bodily Injury (ABI) claims. As a senior leader on the Claims Performance Analytics team, this role will manage a small team responsible for developing innovative analytical solutions, identifying trends, and delivering actionable insights that drive business outcomes.

This is a highly visible role within Claims and across business segment leadership. It requires deep expertise in technical analysis combined with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate insights to senior executives. Acting as a trusted analytic advisor, this leader will monitor and evaluate ABI trends across business segments and present findings to Auto line of business leadership. Success in this role depends on the ability to build strong partnerships with Actuarial and Product stakeholders by transforming claims data into meaningful, business‑driven insights.

In partnership with the Transformation & Optimization Office (T&OO), this leader will also identify opportunities for improvement, contribute to initiative development, and support the implementation of innovative solutions that enhance claim performance and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate complex data into actionable insights, delivering clear results and recommendations to all levels of business leadership.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 5–7 Performance Analysts responsible for building, testing, and validating Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Oversee the design and implementation of advanced leading indicator metrics and analytical frameworks.

  • Conduct deep‑dive analyses to identify emerging trends and root causes, presenting findings to Claims and Segment Executive Leadership.

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of claim processes and their impact on overall business performance.

  • Actively participate in claims and business segment meetings to provide ongoing insights and guidance.

  • Effectively manage competing priorities and deliver high‑impact results in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Evaluate and adopt new tools, technologies, and analytical techniques to continuously enhance performance analytics.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience in analytic function (e.g., Finance, Operations, Claims, Actuarial, or Sales) within the insurance industry, including advanced trending analytics and statistical analysis.

  • At least two years of proven leadership experience with a track record of successfully developing and managing teams.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to executive leaders and Claims field leadership.

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to draw meaningful insights from limited or imperfect data.

  • Demonstrated success in developing innovative data solutions and translating complex analyses into compelling, actionable narratives.

  • Highly collaborative with the ability to build and sustain strong, trusted working relationships.

  • Disciplined, structured, and customer‑focused thought leader.

  • Experience with data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau or similar platforms.

  • Strategic thinker with intellectual curiosity and a transparent, consultative approach to analytics.

  • Self‑directed with sound judgment and strong decision‑making capabilities.

  • Creative problem‑solver with a strong commitment to delivering results.

  • Auto Bodily Injury experience or working knowledge of actuarial principles is strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, or a related field preferred.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$138,000 - $207,000
