At Constant Contact, we are seriously awesome people who take ownership and make an impact by operating with the mindset, integrity and courage of a small business owner. There’s something so profoundly rewarding about knowing that your work is empowering people everywhere to pursue their dreams.  Here, we all play an integral part in helping business owners, entrepreneurs, non-profits and individuals to succeed by giving them all the help and tools they need to grow online. We’re energized by new challenges and new possibilities-and we’re just getting started!

Constant Contact is seeking a performance-focused Director, Paid Media to lead paid acquisition across the US and International markets. This role owns paid media strategy, investment governance, and execution standards across paid channels, driving efficient customer acquisition and measurable growth against Gross Adds and CAC guardrails.

This is a high-impact, cross-functional leadership role for someone who combines strategic clarity, analytical rigour, and hands-on paid media capability, and who can drive outcomes through influence in a matrixed organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy, planning, and performance ownership

  • Own the paid media strategy across US and International, aligned to company growth priorities and segment needs (SMB single-seat and growing multi-seat segments).
  • Translate growth priorities into channel plans, budget allocation, forecasting, and pacing guardrails.
  • Define and enforce execution standards for account structure, optimisation approach, testing cadence, and measurement hygiene across channels.

Operating model and cross-functional leadership

  • Partner with Centres of Excellence (Brand, Creative, SEO, Sites, Analytics and Operations, Product Marketing, CLM, Corporate Comms) to ensure paid plans integrate with priorities, creative systems, and measurement.
  • Lead weekly and monthly business rhythms: performance reviews, learnings, test backlog prioritisation, scale or stop decisions, and trade-off resolution.
  • Drive high-quality communication to senior stakeholders with clear narratives: what changed, why it changed, what we learned, what we will do next.

Team leadership and capability building

  • Lead and develop channel owners (SEM, Paid Social and OLV, Display, TV and Offline) with clear accountability, coaching, and elevated execution standards.
  • Ensure strong agency collaboration where agencies are in place, including disciplined knowledge capture, documentation, and transition readiness.
  • Directly manage agencies dedicated to supporting the paid media acquisition effort.

Hands-on leadership when required

  • Be capable of stepping into accounts to troubleshoot pacing, diagnose performance issues, validate measurement integrity, and unblock execution when needed (especially during transitions, launches, or performance dips).

Success measures (what "good" looks like):

  • Paid media contribution to Gross Adds delivered within CAC guardrails (US and International).
  • Improved forecast accuracy and budget pacing discipline.
  • Faster test-to-scale cycle time and higher learning throughput.
  • Clear, repeatable paid media operating system and execution standards across teams.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in paid media / performance marketing with direct accountability for acquisition outcomes.
  • Multi-channel ownership across paid search, paid social, video, and familiarity with offline measurement concepts.
  • Strong commercial judgement on pacing and scaling.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder influence in a matrixed environment.
  • Proven people leadership and coaching capability.

Preferred

  • Experience operating across multiple markets and localisation contexts.
  • Experience managing blended in-house plus agency delivery models.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS or subscription, ideally serving SMB audiences.

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education and work location. In addition, some roles may be eligible for additional on target commission pay or bonus. The compensation package includes health and welfare benefits including paid leave.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
