About Practice by Numbers

Practice by Numbers is an all-in-one business platform for dental practices. We use data, automation, and AI to help practices grow, run more efficiently, and take better care of their patients. About 5,000 practices already run on us, and there are more than 100,000 independent practices in the U.S. still to win.

The Role

We're hiring a Director of Marketing to build the engine that turns the market into pipeline. You'll own marketing strategy end to end, from how dentists understand who we are to the programs that put qualified demos on our sales team's calendar every week.

This is a builder's role, and it's hands-on. You'll set the strategy and the priorities, and you'll also know your way around HubSpot, the website, and the campaign calendar well enough to fix what's broken yourself. You'll lead a small team plus agencies and offshore resources, and you'll be measured on pipeline and revenue, not on activity.
You'll report to the VP of Sales & Marketing, work closely with sales, product, and customer success, and own the customer experience end to end.

What You'll Own

Demand Generation and Pipeline
  • Own marketing-sourced pipeline and demo volume, with targets set alongside sales leadership.
  • Build integrated campaigns across paid, organic, email, content, webinars, and partner channels.
  • Improve website conversion and the path from first touch to booked demo.
  • Partner with sales on what a qualified lead looks like and make the handoff clean and fast.

Brand and Positioning
  • Sharpen the Practice by Numbers story so a busy practice owner gets it in one read.
  • Build positioning, messaging, and launch plans for new products, including how we talk about AI in a way dentists actually trust.
  • Run a content program built around our dentist co-founder and real customer proof.
  • Keep one clear, consistent voice across every channel.

Events and Community
  • Own a national trade show calendar from booth strategy through follow-up, so every show is judged on the deals it produces.
  • Build local events and community programs that bring practice owners together city by city.
  • Work with our partner marketing lead on co-marketing with affiliates, resellers, and industry partners.

Measurement and Operating Rhythm
  • Define the KPIs and dashboards for marketing, and clean up attribution so the numbers can be trusted.
  • Track the full funnel: leads, MQLs, demos, opportunities, cost per demo, CAC, and marketing-sourced revenue.
  • Own the marketing budget and move dollars toward what produces pipeline.
  • Report results and recommendations to executive leadership in plain language.

Team and Vendors
  • Lead and develop a small team, including partner marketing and sales enablement.
  • Manage agencies, contractors, and offshore resources with clear workflows, SLAs, and quality standards.
  • Set the campaign calendar and weekly cadence that keep the whole function accountable.

How We'll Measure Success in Year One
  • Growth in marketing-sourced pipeline and qualified demos
  • Lead-to-demo and demo-to-opportunity conversion
  • Website conversion rate
  • Pipeline and revenue per trade show and event
  • Cost per demo and campaign ROI
  • Attribution that sales and finance both trust

What You Bring
  • 7+ years in B2B marketing, including at least 3 years owning strategy and pipeline outcomes as a leader.
  • Deep knowledge of AI tools, how they affect customer acquisition and the customer journey, and how they improve results end to end.
  • A track record of building demand generation programs that measurably grew pipeline, and the ability to walk through the numbers.
  • SMB SaaS or healthcare technology experience. Dental is a plus, not a requirement.
  • A storyteller's instinct and an operator's discipline. You can write the message and stand behind the results it produces.
  • Hands-on command of HubSpot, Google Analytics, SEO, and marketing automation.
  • Experience running trade shows and events as a pipeline channel, not just a brand presence.
  • Experience managing a budget, agencies, and offshore or contract teams.
  • Comfort in a fast-moving, founder-led company where priorities compete and you have to pick.
  • Willingness to travel to trade shows and events.

Nice to Have
  • Experience marketing to dental, medical, or other small healthcare practices.
  • Experience building go-to-market systems as a company moves from growth stage to scale.
  • Product marketing or launch experience in software.

What We Offer
  • Base salary range of $140,000 to $180,000 per year, depending on experience, skills and location plus a potential performance bonus tied to pipeline and revenue.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) match, paid time off, and parental leave.
  • Real ownership and direct access to executive leadership.
  • A team that likes to win and celebrates when it does.

Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $140 – $180 per year.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
