The Role
At Moderna, we believe in the transformative power of mRNA science and its potential to revolutionize medicine. As we expand our portfolio across infectious diseases, rare diseases, and oncology, we are seeking a Director, Global Competitive Intelligence to lead Moderna’s commercial CI strategy across inline brands and pipeline assets. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring Moderna stays ahead in a dynamic and competitive global landscape.

This individual will lead the design, execution, and evolution of Moderna’s competitive intelligence capabilities within the Commercial organization. Acting as a strategic thought partner to Commercial and Portfolio leadership, the Director will deliver foresight, market insights, and strategic recommendations to inform product positioning, scenario planning, and go-to-market strategies globally. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, drives cross-functional alignment, and influences without authority to shape Moderna’s competitive readiness and commercial success.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Own and lead the global competitive intelligence strategy for Commercial, spanning inline brands and pipeline programs across geographies and therapeutic areas.

  • Monitor and analyze competitor pipelines, clinical trial data, regulatory strategies, commercial activities, and market trends to provide insights on competitive threats and opportunities.

  • Deliver competitor insights that inform product development, launch strategies, and lifecycle management across Moderna’s portfolio.

  • Represent the Competitive Intelligence function in key global Commercial planning forums, providing strategic foresight that supports global brand and launch planning.

  • Evaluate the reliability of competitive intelligence research findings, upholding stringent standards for accuracy, relevance, and quality in all deliverables, and effectively communicate the level of evidence to stakeholders.

  • Drive intelligence gathering efforts in collaboration with regional teams, ensuring insights are tailored to the nuances of both established and emerging markets.

  • Act as a strategic partner to global Commercial, Portfolio, and Therapeutic Area leaders to proactively shape positioning, differentiation, and launch readiness through competitive intelligence insights.

  • Present actionable insights that inform senior leadership’s strategic decisions.

  • Lead strategic vendor partnerships, ensuring delivery of high-impact insights while managing quality, timelines, and commercial alignment.

  • Continuously improve CI frameworks and methodologies, leveraging digital tools and automation to ensure efficiency and accuracy in intelligence delivery.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Life Sciences, or a related field

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in competitive intelligence, commercial strategy, strategic insights, or related roles in pharmaceuticals, life sciences, healthcare, technology, consulting, or other innovation-driven sectors

  • Proven ability to lead competitive or market intelligence strategies that inform high-stakes decisions, ideally at a global scale

  • Strong understanding of product lifecycles, market shaping, and global dynamics — with ability to quickly learn regulatory and drug development environments

  • Demonstrated success in translating data into strategic recommendations, engaging executive stakeholders, and influencing without authority

  • Experience managing CI vendors or external partners with an emphasis on quality, timeliness, and alignment to strategic goals

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across Medical Affairs, Market Access, Commercial, and Clinical Development

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS, PhD) in a relevant field

  • Experience with commercial strategy in life sciences, biotech, or adjacent industries

  • Familiarity with healthcare systems, regulatory strategy, or go-to-market models in complex environments

  • Familiarity with AI-driven CI platforms, digital dashboards, and foresight tools

  • Strategic leadership experience in matrixed, global environments
